It really seems that the nationalistic spirit in this nation is dead compared to countries around the world. We are living in the greatest example of democracy the world has known and I for one am damn proud each and every day I wake up.

Dont worry, all the lefties that have said this country sucks for the last 8 years cant really say much starting in January.

It will be very interesting to see what liberals say the first time one of our helllfires takes out 10 civilians in Afghanistan and/or Pakistan under Obama.

Or you have nothing to offer your country and become a bitter, selfish, jealous old man hell bent on bitching the rest of his life.

@OP, Nationalism is alive and well on the Right, and Conservatives try to preserve the nation we have, but the winds of "change" are blowing harder and harder from one year to the next, so what we love is being destroyed and overran by people who want to give all our freedoms to the state through UHC, high taxes, etc.

Why are you so proud? We are certainly not the most free country in the world. How is being a great example of a democracy a good thing? Democracy is what our forefathers loathed. What makes the people of this country so much better than the people of Canada or Mexico or Japan?

I think we're all humans in this world and we shouldn't be proud of residing in specific set of imaginary lines in the ground and those imaginary lines in the ground do not define us. We should be proud of treating each other with respect and decency.

1: We have two sides fighting each other that are too busy demonizing the enemy to compliment the nation.

2: We?re in a sad state of affairs right now where we?re in decline from our golden age. To have know what we?ve had and lost is enough to demoralize a great many people.

I think we?re a damn good nation, probably still the best place to live, yet our future looks grim especially with regards to individual liberty and the centralization of power.

Other nations are passionate because they are ambitious to attain what the US already has. The people are not passionate because even with the war, economic slowdown, etc people are proud and happy to be American. You see all the partisan bickering but that's more drama and media trying to make a story more than anything. If there were an issue which pissed off Americans a lot, they would become passionate and unite for the cause.

Leave, problem solved

Maybe we should make everyone apply for their ability to stay. What exactly do you contribute to society and how does it outweigh all the meaningless bitching you do all day on AT P&N?

I don't think most people believe they are better people necessarily, I think we believe we are a great country. We are proud of the ideas and people that make this country great.

Nationalism is extreme and isn't the right word... it's just basic patriotism. Those aren't imaginary lines in the ground, they are real and concrete barriers where ideas, culture, and principles often clash. Those lines do help define us because being part of one country means being part of a history, a tradition, and an embodiment of ideals and concepts. It helps define our experiences and character, just as much as a person's ethnicity.

There is nothing wrong with being proud of our history and ideals.

I think it's safe to say that the USA is the greatest single nation in terms of economy, opportunity, luxury, etc, because of our high amount of work that is protected by a strong rule of law. In other words, there are many producers and are not (yet) strangled by crime and corruption.

The soon to be ex-Traitor In Chief and his quasi-nazi regime of traitors, murderers, torturers, war criminals, war profiteers and Wall Street cronies squandered every bit of good will for our nation, both by our own citizens and the world at large. You saw the beginning of turning that around, both at home with the massive voter turn out and post election celebrations and around the world, when people were dancing in the street to celebrate Obama's victory.

To put in Obama's terms, George W. Bush is not passing the torch; he's passing the shovel he used to dig us into the worst of political, social and economic holes. We will only learn with time whether he and his adminstration can turn things around. The only good news in that is, we won't have to deal with John McCain, who would have just kept digging deeper.

Actually, I think that goes for all of us if that's what you're saying.

I know you like to blame Bush for everything, but come on... you think we were more nationalistic under Clinton?

not that nationalism is even a good thing, but if it's more prominent in Europe, I truly blame soccer.

if the Super Bowl was the US vs Canada, you might see more "USA, USA" chants.

You could claim you're a comedian and about to give Jack Handy's deep thoughts a run for it's money!

What do you mean by "nationalism"? And how do you expect it to be expressed?

America has great things and terrible things. Amog the terrible things are idiots on the right who can'tunderstand the democrats' views and misrepresent them this badly.

Democrats take huge pride in the great things about America, and care enough about their country to fight the bad. The right is sick and fights against improvements. See my sig.
