Well I quit chatting much after getting married. Then I got a new computer and never reinstalled ICQ. I'm sure I could still use my old number, whatever it was. I'm at work and can't check.

And brag about a low number no less. 😉

I used it back before AOL bought it... it was good and it had some neat features, but I started using AIM because I had friends on AOL, and then it got to the point where all of my friends used AIM so I stopped using ICQ entirely.

it was good then aim took over. i liked how icq let you send offline messages, aim doesn't🙁 course aol bought icq, i think they wanted it to just die off

I still use ICQ.
I've had an account since 1996.
I definitely preferred it back in the day, but everyone jumped ship and went and started using more ass programs like MSN.

I use it every day, via Trillian. It was the superior IM client when it came out, and was until AOL bought it and started adding advertisements to it. Went all down hill from there.
The protocol is still great, even if the ICQ client software sucks.

I remember back in the day when ICQ was all the rage.

Then AIM happened.

I liked how ICQ let you send messages offline, which Yahoo! IM and Skype also offer.

I think the Spam in ICQ was a big prob. Also ICQ kept releasing crappy versions, with ads in the window and that kinda stuff. Once i got trillian i've never looked back. I still remember my ICQ# by heart though.

Ok jk, that's my student ID #.. dont remember. I had 4 accts at least. The last one I stayed with for a long time because I tried to remember the #, and I used it for a good 6 months straight. Today, I don't know it anymore... this was like 4 years ago, and I got my first account back in 1998

I still log in everyday. A bunch of my friends still use it. AIM,MSN, and Yahoo are lame. I'm old school as fvck. My UIN is below 4 million, and my 1st was below 3 million. So I'm harsh as fvck as well.

I used ICQ 98a for as long as possible, then switched to Miranda. Anything after ICQ99 was just plain retarded, as it pretty much all of the other bloated and huge IM programs.

My UIN is below 1,000,000....

Haha yah. All I know is, my number started with a 5. It got so bloated later on. You couldn't click a menu with out something with a million buttons popping up.

Also, ICQ was banned in most university dorm/residence so most of my friends and I converted to msn.

AOL bought them, the client evolved into crap and everybody started using AIM and MSn because they actually kept adding more features where as ICQ never evolved past what it was in the late 90s. I still log on via Trillian but there is only one person on it that I talk to once a year or so.

And MSN now lets you send offline messages however they are unreliable. Sometimes people get them and sometimes they don't. MS needs to fix this. But With their pace of anything, it will be years to never until they examine this problem.
