What happened to ICQ?

I remember people using ICQ and it was very popular in the early to mid 90s that I could remember. Then it stopped or something and now I'm wondering what has happened to it and why it's not popular anymore, possibly because you had a # associated with you?

I still log in everyday. A bunch of my friends still use it. AIM,MSN, and Yahoo are lame. I'm old school as fvck. My UIN is below 4 million, and my 1st was below 3 million. So I'm harsh as fvck as well.

I used ICQ 98a for as long as possible, then switched to Miranda. Anything after ICQ99 was just plain retarded, as it pretty much all of the other bloated and huge IM programs.

It's all I use except for one of my friends is on AIM. When everyone started getting online back in the day, we all got ICQ and it stuck.

it got too big and bloated. i wouldn't say other clients/networks are necessarily better. aol's large installed base certainly helped them with AIM.

It got bought out by AOL and then they started having ads and all this other crap and then msn took over because it was better.

ICQ 99b FTW!

eakers = 62907576 (no, I never go on anymore)

I still get on my ICQ once in a while because that's what some of my friends in Hong Kong uses. But my and the rest of my friends converted to AIM and MSN.

A friend told me about ICQ a long long time ago, he had a 6 digit UIN. Mine was 2019586.
I stopped using it after it kept getting more and more bloated around 1999 or 2000.

5308123 ftw!!! haha.

I haven't used ICQ since I was a senior in high school... 7 years ago. can't believe I still remember my #.

I stopped using ICQ because all my friends stopped using ICQ. we all moved onto AIM (though nowadays I'm using AIM via miranda)
