Hello, i see the Geforce GTX 960 review is not out yet and im starting to think anandtech is going down same way xbitlabs did. It saddens me as those 2 used to be my fav place to read hardware reviews :'(

The preview was posted under news and said dude was having personal issues and the review would be delayed.

It happens.

AT hasn't always been super quick with reviews, but they're usually very thorough. I remember a few GPUs in the past where AT was one of the last, but best* contributions

* They were, however, a little late to the frame rating party...

Personally, I read AT reviews more for the explanation about the technology and less for the actual performance figures. I like reading about the architecture and explanations of various AAs, filters, compressions etc'. Even more so for CPU articles.

if i want fast performance numbers (pun) , i turn to other sites.

I noticed this with Windows 10 / holo glasses news. It was super prominent on pretty much any site I frequent, even my national TV had an article about it, but I found nothing on AT. Please note that I didn't exactly search throughly, I just flew over the front page and found nothing.
Personal issues are one thing, not reporting interesting IT development quite another. I found it strange to say the least.

There is no need to rush, quality over speed/quantity

That's true too. It has a side benefit of adding more games to the test suite instead of testing just 5 games like TR. It also allows the reviewer to check market pricing of competing products a week after launch. Sometimes there are movements worth noting. At this point we know where 960 lands in performance, we know it's poor value from price/performance, we know it has frame times issues, we know it runs into VRAM bottlenecks in a few games. A review at AT isn't going to change those factors.

I know the reviewer said there were personal issues that were delaying the review, so I dont want to criticize this particular case.

I have to say overall though, that i dont understand the review selection on AT these days. Seems like there are few or late reviews for gaming performance and conventional PC hardware, while they manage to find time to review minor components like ssds, motherboards, etc. And for crying out loud, how many reviews do we have for Brix like systems.

I really wish AT would do a comprehensive review, maybe at six month or yearly intervals. of gaming performance with various cpus and gpus, something along the line of what game.gpu does

Since Anand left, Ryan has taken over as the head hancho. Since he used to be the one doing the GPU reviews, I'm not sure if someone else has taken over or if Ryan is still in charge of that as well. He probably has a lot on his plate, but could also have other issues going on...

So I wonder how many people they have that do reviews? I would think that they would be "cross trained" so that reviewers could review different fields.

For instance, I understood about the 960 review being delayed, but I a kind of surprised that by now they could not have handed it off to someone else and had it completed. I really would like to get the take on it from this site, since they may not always be on the cutting edge, but I trust their integrity probably more than any other site.

Agreed, AT used to be my favorite place to read reviews, but in the last couple years I hardly check it. They'll have an occasional PSU and SSD review and the rest appears to be dedicated to ultra mobile stuff

Many reviews out for the 960. Probably one of the most lackluster GPU releases ever. Does the OP think an AT review will make it more interesting? :D

Are Anandtech and Tomshardware not the same site now? Their review has already been published on Tom's.

This trend, as it concerns AT is unfortunately not limited to the 960. PC hardware is more of an afterthought these days as far as AT reviews are concerned.

We only got a preview of the nexus 9 tablet too, the review never happened. Standards are slipping.

I still can't get used to hearing that sort of thing. Companies generally have agendas. Guess nothing lasts forever.

I personally find nothing wrong with this. The parent company will likely infuse more money into AT and get more staff hired and therefore faster reviews like everyone wants. If AT were independent, things would probably continue on a downward spiral. I find a lot of useful information over on Tom's Hardware where as I find almost nothing on AT these days. Finally keep in mind many viewers have very short attention spans and have switched to watching YouTube reviews vs conventional sites like AT where you have to read an extremely lengthy article about the technology driving a product - that confines AT to a very small niche. Anand messed up by not going the way of video reviews much sooner and AT suffered as a result.

Anandtech reviews are always the most thorough and information packed, but unfortunately are often late to the party and/or never come at all.

This (sadly)....

AT used to be the site where I would sit and refresh my screen at the exact time the NDA lifted and 'voila!' the review was there, in all it's glory! Now, its rarely there the same day or next day. If AT survives on ad revenue, they are definitely losing-out a lot these days because people will just go to other sites and read there. Generally, once you have read 1-2 (or maybe 2-3 on more controversial hardware) there isn't a point to keep reading more of the same. Come on-time to the party, or don't come at all.

Makes you wonder how well-managed AT really is. It is very likely it has always been this way, but Anand kept things together through either his own effort and reviews and/or his presence directly.

I can't remember them ever missing NDA release with a major new GPU launch. Things have been going down the toilet since Anand left for sure. Sad........Linus has more credibility than any of the main hardware sites these days....

EDIT: Ryan's 970 write up today restores my faith in humanity. Better than another 960 review but I still want to read Ryan's 960 review.
