What happened to all of the NF4 S939 boards?

My buddy was finally ready to build a system. We decided on a budget and on the parts. We picked what seemed to be nice motherboard (great layout, nice features, good price and good reviews (well, going by the Newegg reviews that is). Wouldn't you know it, when he put it into his shopping cart they had stock. By the time he went to place the order, they didn't have any left. Under where it said no stock, it listed 03-05-07 as an ETA.

Well, he placed the rest of the order and they never got any in stock since then. We looked at Chief Value, MWave, Micro Center, Directron, Tiger-Direct (getting desparate), and Pricewatch.com. No one has them in stock (not for the past few weeks). So, is this a bad mobo that went out of production? Is it a great Motherboard that everyone grabs up as soon as it becomes available? Is S939 production completely ceased and supply all gone?

Since he has everything else and I am on vacation this week, I looked at Newegg for another name brand NF4 full ATX motherboard and was rather surprised to see that they have NOTHING in stock.

Any suggestions or comments?

Thanks, I forgot to mention that we had checked ZZF.com also. Nahh... Not many of those are NF4 and the only one I like is the A8N32SLI which is about $150 ($130 at Mwave).

My buddy is on a decently tight budget. We went with S939 so that we could re-use his 2x512 of memory. With any luck, in the future we will get him a X2 CPU and maybe another video card (if the games we are playing then require those). The idea of getting a full sized board with having Asus quality (although, I'd be plenty happy with Abit or Epox myself), that is SLI capable is really what we are looking for.

We are considering this MSI K8N Neo4-F board instead. I am gonna call my local store and see if they have one in stock tomorrow AM.

Any thoughts?

BTW: At this point I am rather annoyed knowing that CPU prices will be dropping soon and this system still isn't together.

I ran into the same problem two weeks ago. Boards for S939 are just plain disappearing. Its sort of weird, but higher end stuff tends to disappear when there is a replacement available. ending up nabbing an Epox off of newegg, after the MSI didn't ship because it went out of stock. Basically, you have to go with what is available when you order, brand loyalty can no longer be a motivating factor this late in the game...your just going to have to tell your buddy that. On top of the fact that Asus is no longer the king, and was never really the king in S939 (that crown belongs to DFI, period, there is no argument).

I'm confused, your subtitle says your looking for an A8N-E then you latter post that you want SLI capability? The A8N-E and the MSI board you linked are both non-SLI. If you want SLI you should jump on the A8N32-Sli from mwave, at this point it's slim pickens and not going to get better

Thank you guys for your input. I completely understand. I wasn't sure if there was a different reason why there is very limited supply (such as when an earthquake destroyed one of the main Memory production plants and Memory became very scarce and expensive for a while).

I agree, in this section brand loyalty shouldn't hold you back from considering other manufactures offerings. There are just too many companies making good products nowdays. Personally, I don't really care for Asus as a whole. I think that their website is HORRIBLE to use and there products overpriced. Abit, Shuttle and Epox are just fine by me. True, I never have owned or really considered DFI but since you mention it and the ones that we did look at were comparably priced to that $130-$150 Asus, I have no problem consideriing a DFI board also.

I am sorry about the SLI confusion... It really isn't a necessity at this point (and has no real business being mentioned when the word 'budget' is used), although I don't know if it will become more common in the future. I hear that game manufactures are incorporating the use of multiple GPU's when the write the software, but I can't imagine any game requiring more then one GPU to run decently. I should say that I don't care if the motherboard is SLI capable, but, it would be considered a 'bonus' if it does.

Thanks for all of the help guys, I truly appreciate the input.

Newegg has these seven in stock as of this morning: of these, would recommend the two on the far right, Asus and Biostar. On the far left, Via chipset: danger Will Robinson, not recommended....

Also, hidden in Newegg's "server motherboard" section are these socket 939s:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Productco...37%2CN82E16813151155%2CN82E16813182078

I have a Tyan S2865, it has been the best motherboard I have ever used, and I have had Asus, Intel, Biostar, Soyo (chinese for sucks?) and MSI.....

The Tyan boards are a little more expensive, but, their website is fast, their tech support is good, and, it seems that at least some of the extra cost goes into quality control...

Some nice boards there... I am glad to see them back in stock. Anyone ever use a 'Foxcon' board?
