Just got a new system and have been running it for about a week and a half. Was very happy with the performance.

P4 2.8, Retail HS/Fan with Abit Ic7-Max3 and gig of Kingston Pc3200 HyperX

Last night all of the sudden my motherboard started beeping while I was extracting a bin file. After extracting was done, beeping stopped.

Current temperature is 109-115F or 45-50 celcius idle!! Under 100% load, it gets to about 57-69 celcius.

What happened?

Unfortunately, I never did check cpu temp prior to this.

All Bios settings are set to default.

CPU Grease has been reapplied to HS/Fan.

Any help appreciated.. thanks!

Talk in Celsius temps. That is the standard in computer lingo. I don't want to get out my calculator to figure out what 89F, 140F is in C. Did you set a warning beep in BIOS? That is the only reason why you would get a beep, unless you have another software program monitoring (like MBM5).

"Norms" vary. I have a 2.8 on an IC7 but I have a good cooler. For norms you need to find someone with your setup to see what kind of results they get, temperature is VERY relative, especially dealing with varying computer components. "57-69C" is not a true load temperature, 69C is your load temp (if not higher), and that is pretty high. Are you overclocking?

Did you remove intel's black TIM pad from the heatsink before applying your own stuff? You did say it was the retail HSF.

Just a shot in the dark.

nope.. 2.8C

what's ur idle temp charloscarlies?? what kind of cooling are u running?
I was wondering if that OTES on our boards could cause it to run a bit warmer
56C idle is kinda ridiculous

LTC8K6 - that black tim pad was not there when i applied thermal paste

I'm using an SP-94 w/ an Enermax 92 mm that pushes around 60 cfm I would say. I idle around 45C and hit around 52C at load.
