First off my rig:
P4 3.2ghz
Gigabyte mobo
1.5gb PQI turbo
6800ultra (420/1135)
120gb sata
Rosewill 500watt psu
Aerocool aeroengine

I used to score 5600 in 3dmark05 with official 78.01 drivers but after upgrading to modded drivers XG81.94 I now only score 3841.....but the odd thing is I havent noticed an impact in gameplay. Its smooth if not smoother at the same settings I was gaming at before. Are modded drivers supposed to lower scores in 3dmark? However i did change some performance/quality settings in the NV control panel, like IQ to performance instead of quality and a few other but nothing major. Are you supposed to do that with modded drivers? Can someone please tell me whats going on?

did you have anything running in the background? have you run the test more than once to make sure it wasn't a fluke?
other than that, I have no clue.

Modded drivers are designed to do several things:

1. Improve performance
2. Increase image quality
3. Increase stability

In your case if you did not change anything in 3DMaro05 or did not change any quality settings in your nvidia console then you shouldn't be seeing a 1800 point drop, rather you should probably be seeing an increase.

Also are your games actually running at the same or higher FPS as before?

The IQ from quality to performance and a couple others...that'll do it. My 6800 scored 3800 if I recall then with it to performance and all optimizations on it scored 5201.

As long as your games are smoother at the same settings...who the hell cares what the stupid worthless number 3DMark spits out is?

It sounded like he was increasing optimizations, not decreasing them.

True i was. Could an underclocked CPU be causing this? or not underclocked but my specs up top is a 2.66ghz P4 oc'ed to 3.22ghz. However lately something strange has been going on...when i boot up my computer the quick memory test shows my memory correct but my cpu clock speeds no longer show up......when i go to my computer right-click properties all it says under computer is 1.50 gigs of RAM, no clock speeds and no SP info. I was just messing around with the bios and i found the only way to make these settings stay is to apply them again and all the info above will be shown for only one reboot, but after i restart my comp everything is erased again. BTW i uninstalled/reinstalled official 78.01's back and still same results, so now im beginning to think its my cpu/mobo that is causing the problem. Thoughts?

Maybe your CMOS battery has died? Do other bios settings reset that you've changed along with the cpu settings?

I dont know i might have to look into that.....but my main question is could a cpu clocked 5.4mhz slower cause a drop in 1800 points? that way i can pinpoint that it is in fact my cpu that is causing this.

Please reread what OdiN posted. Probably one of the best video card statements out there:

Well i would agree with that except i went back to the 78.01 drivers with same clock speeds as before and am scoring 1800 less than i did before...which means something is wrong here

Once again!!

How many different ways do we need to reiterate this to you? Your games are running fine, you have a card most people could only dream of having.

If you care about 3dMark so much than create drivers that make IQ look like ****** but run insanely fast -_-.

The reason my frames have been the same in my eyes is because the settings im running my games at is fit for a 6600gt to run at, reason for that is because prefer higher frames......so regardless with a card that scores 3800 or 5600 you wouldnt really see a difference. And even you cant deny the fact that something had to have changed with my system to cause this loss in 3dmark....you dont just lose 1800 points any given day.

If you dropped that many points, i dont care how CPU limited you made your games, you would notice a difference.

lol...I used to review video cards too. It's amazing how much people wanted to know 3DMark scores...I simply don't care.

To the OP - as far as performance dropping...not sure what is causing it. Really hard to say without looking at the system myself. So you reverted back to older drivers and lost even more points?

Were you overclocked at all and maybe the new drivers set your clock back to defaults?

If anything...I would get detonator destroyer or something - set your driver as a generic VGA, clear out anything and everything nvidia related, reboot and then install the latest drivers.

I don't see why the OP's being flamed just because he's using 3Dmark05. While on the absolute scale an essentially worthless indicator, on the relative it will definitely be of use. That's right, your score doesn't just drop 1800 any day and it's fine for him to be concerned about that especially given his other problems.

If it was then wouldn't his games have dropped in performance too. The same goes for AA and AF, as well as Quality settings.

No one is flaming him. I asm arguably getting short with him  but certainly not flaming. From what i read in this thread there are no "other problems", just a drop in 3dMark score.

I used flamed for lack of a better word but this leads me to believe he also has other problems:

I understand :)

Good thing to point out XT. OP: You may, if you feel comfortable, try to flash your BIOS to an updated version. Also, are all your settings retained if the computer is off (BIOS settings that is). If they aren't try replacing your computers internal battery.

What PSU are you using?

500watt rosewill as indicated in OPost, w/strong 32 amps on the 12v. I guess i ill try flashing to a newer bios hope it helps....Does anyone know on gigabtye mobo's when downloading the bios to a floppy should i format the floppy first or will the Q-flash utility read it automatically without formatting?
