What happen to my Computer?!??

I went to eat dinner for about an hour and came back to find that my computer monitor is on with no video. So i looked around more and this is what i discovered.

I've tried the reset button but it's no good.
I am not getting a video signal.
My keyboard does not light up.
My DVD drives do not light up.
Everything else seems to get power just fine.

Do you guys think i need a new motherboard?? How did this happen? Any suggestions?
My sig contains my pc specifactions.

If i have to get a new motherboard should i get the same exact one so i dont have to reformat anything?

Welps, i'm touching around the inside of my PC while it's on and the only thing that is generating heat is my hard drives. =[
No heat from my motherboard chip or the cpu and even the video card. Help please!

You arn't giving us clear enough information to go on ... first what, if anything happens when you press the power button?

My neon lights along with the fans turn on and also my hard drive spins. Nothing else happens.

No sounds.
No flashing lights from my keyboard.
Nothing shows up on my monitor.
No lights to my DVD drives.

Okay... The first thing I'd try would be to swap out the video card & see if you get a picture ... after that its a matter of swapping out components to see which one failed on you.... I'd guess the most likely thing is a partial failure of the power supply, but unless you have a stockpile of spare parts sitting around to test with, you may need to take it to a local shop.

Its really very strange to have a PC quit while running like that though, did you have anything overclocked & also how long had this PC been working fine?

I didnt have anything overclocked.
The only thing running was bittorent and warcraft2.

Im going to swap out parts tomorrow night.
Seasonic is capable of failure?? I'll grab my other psu and see how it works then. Thanks.

Man, my tower is a mess so this is going to suck!!!!!

Okay, I did a quick test with my PSU.

I unplugged the DVD drives and plugged those wires into the HD. The hd spins. I used different cords from the same psu for the DVD drives and they do not turn on. I'm thinking there was some type of power surge or something static touched my casing. =[

No!!!!!!!!!
Man, this sucks. Now i have to find out what all works and what doesn't. I'll probably just build a new pc, Core 2 Duo. =[

The only thing that i can think of that might have caused this is the piece of paper that i got stuck inside one of my DVD drives a few weeks back. I never took it out. But how could it have affected both DVD drives and the video? =[

mine sometimes does similar but its the psu seems to go into some sort of shutdown all lights are on all fans are blowing, no signal reset doesnt work, holding the power button in doesnt work.

i have to take the cable out of the back and then pop it back and it works fine for weeks / months - i dont ever turn mine off

Any power supply can fail including Seasonic so that could still be the problem... the next most likely would be some type of surge-related damage killing your motherboard, or maybe a bad capaciter quitting on you. I suppose its also possible the cpu suddenly died too, but if you wern't overclocking & the cpu fan was working ok thats not likely either, if it makes you feel better I doubt the paper in your DVD drive did anything at least ... wish I could be more helpful but theres no easy solution here.

I would start by unplugging everything that isn't required to post to bios. To post all that is needed is the mobo, PSU, video card, monitor, CPU/heatsink, KB, and one memory stick. That means unplug from the mobo and PSU ALL drives, sound cards, USB devices, PCI cards and so on.

If this works, one or more of the cables or devices you unplugged is the culprit.

If this fails, you know that one or more of the installed devices is the culprit, and the removed devices likely work. Where you have spares (you probably have two memory sticks), substitute them one at a time. I even try different memory and video slots when I can before I assume the mobo is bad.

ok guys. My dvd drive works when i plug it in another computer. I dont understand it. How can a seasonic psu fail like this?!?!?!? I'm going to plug in my old psu and see if everything works. I thought seasonoic was suppose to be reliable?!?!!?!? That's why i paid 100 bucks when it first came out for the 380 watts!!!!!!!!!?!?!?! =[

Okay, i dont think it's the PSU. I think it's either the mobo or the cpu unless you want to count my x800xl. That's the only thing i had connected to the thing and no bios. I tried two different PSUs and no go. I'm going to try one more and try my video card in another pc. Ahh well. I guess i should upgrade to conroe anyway.
