I was thinking that, they already start with making graphic card, then they making chipset.
Then what they have to do is acquired company like transmeta then rebuild the architecture that transmeta has. :)
maybe they can make a very good gaming cpu with low power usage. ;)

this is just my MHO ;) it's just come out suddenly on my head hehehee.

what would you consider a good gaming cpu? first off, it must have games, so it needs to be x86 compatible. now the lower power part: transmeta fits the bill, but its too slow. a gaming cpu, at least by my definition, is any POWERFUL x86 processor that doesn't need a custom mobo. so basically, the athlon, duron, p3 and p4 meet the requirements. transmeta processors dont, since they aren't fast enough - and the same goes for the via C3 (800mhz version can work heatsinkless). a gaming cpu is a powerful cpu, and at least now, nobody has a low-power powerful cpu ;)

im' not sure why you think nVidia would make a low-power cpu... modern graphics cards disipate more heat than many pentiums.

Yeah... You don't exactly "aquire a company", then "rebuild the architecture". It took AMD how many years to get where they are now? And what about Cyrix? Their first CPUs weren't even fully Windows-compatible :)

So don't worry about CPU prices going down due to nVidia's competition, because they can't do it.

perhaps they can buy out ford and then redesign it into a computer shaped car that everyone would want to buy.

lol.. no doubt you would be pre-ordering it cause it's made by nVidia right?

seriously, it would be better if they didn't even use x86 architecture.. which would likely mean a big problem for anyone who uses windows, cause unless they have alot of influence at MS, (which they don't) MS won't make their OS 'nVidia compatable' so to speak, which forces nVidia to have a compatability mode to run windows :)

think about this though, Linux would probably be the first OS to work on an nVidia architecture! hehe.. too bad there aren't too many games on it eh? UT and QUake 3! woohoo!

i can see it happening, but it wouldnt be that great, nvidia could just do an x86 clone, and optimize the parts that are used most often for gaming. (not sure what games use more FPU, Integer, what?) Intel and AMD cpus are totally mulitpurpose, they both hace points in thier architecture stronger than the other, but overall they are basically desinged to handle any sort of code. But if you wanted to make a gaming CPU, youd know right off the bat that most games use 3d graphics, whatever instructions 3d graphics uses, just optimize the CPU for those instructions. not sure what the overall benifit would be, but im sure there would be a downside as well, non gaming applications would most likely suffer, and the CPU would not be too appealing to the general public, unless someone had enough money to build a system for gaming alone, then it might be worth it buying a specialized gaming CPU
