What good Windows XP cutomization programs are there?

I've never been into the whole windows cutomization stuff, like active desktop and such. I usually keep the windows classic look in XP to save resources. But, I picked up a laptop for college and would like to try this sort of program. I know a little about windows-included Active Desktop, and heard of the free Samurize program. What about ObjectDesktop, it is worth the $50? (I think there is a free version w/ limited features also) Any other software that i should consider?

That looks cool. Also, the samurize site has alot of examples/screenshots that look interesting.
