Buy eBay. Fees will rise with prices so you're inflation-proof. Be sure to freeze employee salaries though.

Buy pennies. Lots and lots of pennies. Millions of them. Then when the world runs out of copper in 20 years, melt all the pennies and sell the copper.

AFAIK, pennies are comprised of mostly Zinc.

EDIT: Or was it steel?

It's Zinc.

Honestly it sounds like food, water, guns, and ammo would be the best investment since if the economy were to collapse as you fear it would these would be the items in highest demand, thus their value would skyrocket.

No point in hording paper cash either since it would become worthless if the economy crashed.

Gold wouldn't be a bad choice either, but it would be very hard to trade without broadcasting "I have gold, come rob me!" At least with food, water, guns, and ammo not only do you hold something with tangible value to barter with but you also have the means to defend what you have.

As others have said, if your worried about a serious shit hits the fan scenario like that you should be investing in guns and lots of ammo. I would suggest a good shotgun with both a short and long barrel (or two shotguns, can be almost the same cost sometimes) and good semi-auto rifle. I will probably catch some slack but for a long term shit hits the fan thing like you are talking about and I had to choose between my AR-15 clone or my AK-47 I would pick the AK without pause. I would also suggest a good bolt action rifle like the Rem700 and also a decent handgun.

Then buy a ton of bulk ammo and store it in waterproof containers.

You don't have to worry so much about food, water and items for barter. There will be enough people who didn't invest in guns and ammo to supply you with all of that.

There's too many greedy bargain hunters in our economy for everything to become worthless at once.. That kind of doomsday logic doesn't make any sense.

For example.. the dotcom bust - the money went into real estate. Then, the real estate bust - the money is going into foreign investments (mainly china).

The China bust.. the money will probby go back into tech stocks in America. :D

RMB?

If you aren't Chinese then you don't have to worry about the Chinese government seizing it.

Yes, I am talking about a shit hitting the fan scenario. Unfortunately, you can't legally have a gun in NYC. (Isn't this a bit unconstitutional?)

NYC will have a massive die-off if armageddon arrives, since food supplies will run out almost instantly. Someone hoarding their last can of creamed beets will laugh at your gold coins.

If you're sure about the end times, you should move to another state where you can buy cheap land to build your bunker, stock up on canned goods, and build a guns & explosives collection. It's the only way to be sure.

I think you should buy ice cubes and freezers.
Just think of the day the weather outside becomes 70 centigrades!
