this is very clever trying to palm me off a read me file as an explination on nvidias lying bout the FARCRY situation but it aint no answer and you have not brought any light to the situation since my post approximately 10 hours ago
my fetish is watchin u squirm and cannot bear to answer me coz im rite about the so called ps3.0 vs 64 bit version i have provided you with all the tools to make your decision because you seem to be missing MY point COMPLETELY and its not my fault you are to lazy to read just a few pages on two articles
all is it takes is you to say yeah it does seem a fair bit of foulplay on nvidias side but u aint even explained or give the data i posted a glance youve been avoiding the question with petty bollocks all day long just go to the links and do your own summary instead of palming me off with a f****g changelog
and explain to me about atis lies then coz u seem to speak as tho u think u a major player in the gfx market so if U find me ignorant then please ENLIGHTEN me

You are right about nothing you r*tarded little sh*th*d. The 1.3 patch came out for farcry long before the AMD 64bit patch ever did. Since you are on anandtech, you might like to search the articles and read what Anand actually had to say about it. Oh and good luck getting proper HDR working on your ATi card in Farcry...

When nVidia launched nV40 they had a joint presentation with crytek about farcry and an upcoming patch that would improve performance and visual quality over their (nVidia's) earlier generation products. They never specified exactly which earlier generation they meant and there was no mention of any products other than nVidia's.

When nVidia chose to do articles with various websites about the patch, they chose to compare SM3.0 to SM1.1. Clearly, there is a visual difference between SM3.0 and SM1.1.

You will hardly see the difference visually between SM2.0 and SM3.0 (anand did show some minor lighting differences) - the difference there has always been efficiency, not IQ, something ATi fanboys consistently fail to comprehend.

Also included in the 1.3 patch was HDR support, utilizing nVidia's OpenEXR implimentation, however, this is unrelated to SM3.0

but they (NVIDIA) labelled the original photos ps2.0 when actually they were ps1.1 photos
so to the consumer with no knowledge about the gfx industry tricked into buying their line of their gfx card making the consumer tricked into buying thier dying line, instead of having heres how it is approach to the situation

I agree. Except it should be somebody who's been around long enough to know better than to post things like:

The photos were not labelled 2.0 in the launch presentation (I have the launch video...), they are not labelled 2.0 in the hardocp article you linked. Perhaps in your fevered imagination they were labelled 2.0...

Any by the way, I own a computer business and do extremely well out of it. Like I've already said - You don't know me very well, do you?

In other news, schadenfreude is alive and kicking.

Way to improve the forum's signal to noise ratio, Greg. Speaking as a supposed ATI fanboy, my question to Mike would be why nVidia's downgrade is listed as a seasonal thing and is implied to be par for the course, whereas ATI's downgrade is said to due to unexpected, ominous rumors. Yet both are listed as Holds by Needham & Co., the downgrader in question.

The rumors aren't good, that's for sure, but they appear to be just that: rumors. We all know the misinformation spread around before the last gen's appearance. I'm looking at all this with a very skeptical eye. Anyway, June 21st isn't that far off, so there's not long to wait for real info.

the original article had sm 2.0 on place of the 1.1 which had to be rectified and my fevered imagination tells me your business doesnt buy ati coz u dont like them and when somebody wants an ati you throw you 10 cents in nvidia's favor
and why didnt nvidia provide 2.o screenies in the comparison
im stating the obvious coz it wouldnt make them look good at all
and hard ocp provided the sm2.0 piccies coz nvidia wouldnt want to flog a technology that looked pratically the SAME in some areas thats also another point im addressing
and you dont know me either so were even

nVidia made an unintentional mistake, which they admitted to and quickly corrected.

Has ATi admitted to using Trylinear filtering themselves while accusing nVidia of using filtering hacks (brilinear)? That's just one example out of many I could dredge up for you Codey47...

to quote u G
"The photos were not labelled 2.0 in the launch presentation (I have the launch video...), they are not labelled 2.0 in the hardocp article you linked. Perhaps in your fevered imagination they were labelled 2.0..."
and i also knew that ps3.0 the difference there has always been efficiency, not IQ,(but Both) something that this ATi fanboy did comprehend and also why did nvidia release image quality screenies then(see what im getting at)
by the way you replied u was hoping i didnt know nvidias Unintentional misprinted mistake even tho that mistake was pointed out by a tech site, so im not the retarded little s**thead you originally had taken me for...btw trilinear and bilinear
that is the last little dig im gonna throw your way so im gonna continue on fact of my findings over the past(approx 8 months) hopefully you will give me the time to prove what ive been stating

i remember seeing(i should of stated this b4,seeing tho it was a key factor of making my point clearer huge duuhhh on my side) a ps3.0 video taken from some computer tech show showing this same effect on the rocks on the floor as the screenshot below released in the last month by amd. and at this tech show was nvidia quoting ps3.0 and this was many months and months ago you will have to take my word for it but it was very real and i wish i had a link 4 that video just to prove it
http://www.amd.com/us-en/assets/content_type/DigitalMedia/l-Stones64.jpg this picture and many more 64 bit version screenshots of the game are tried and tested on both gfx configs and it has been found that there are no image quality differences in Offset Mapping between both video cards. They both render this 3D technique with the exact same quality in this game. There are also no differences in image quality running the game with PS 3.0 versus PS 2.0.
and the ati beats the nvidia setup with 4x aa/8af while nvidia setup is no aa and no af in the same resolution of 1600x1200 blowing the performance difference that the so called pixel shader 3.0 was set out to do was run applications faster with better IQ than pixel shader 2.0 or 2.0b
i also have to add a critisism amds way also (and im an amd owner if you didnt read my sys specs)
in this video http://cdrom.amd.com/devconn/farcry/divx_farcry.avi
they compare a few sections of gameplay comparing 32 bit versions to the 64 bit, they compare the "Heat haze" effect which they claim to be 64 bit only(u and i know that the heat haze effect was in the game prior to any patch release made available from Ubisoft or any os and cpu upgrade for that matter)
again back to nvidia. nvidia and their early insight into 64 bit gaming but riding the pixelshader three horse at the same time rather than saying this comes with a patch from ubisoft and an os upgrade or yet another nvidia coincidental unintentional mistake or did they decide to get many sales with a Need To Know Basis Marketing Ploy policy based on a few months on the "unknown" to me that can do wonders for a companies sales
i wouldnt have minded ubisoft to have also added ps 2.0 support for scct(a game im enjoy very much even on ps1.1) just to compare what the difference is concerning framerate and IQ differences (yet another few months bought for nvidias sales boosts
my point is the computer tech world is way too secretive(not just nvidia) to the advanced user and normal consumer hence why ppl upgraded new AGP systems rather than PCI express bcoz it was even unheard of to some advanced users unless you scour the tech sites for information
i knew about pci express a long time b4 it really started being KNOWN about thanks to anandtechs article on BTX many moons ago

fairplay dood i know about the doom 3(opengl) filtering and admittedly ....yes i just wanted an answer to the farcry nvidia situation and was sticking to my guns on that fact

and for the record and i really dont need to say this, both companies have been said not to completely follow the filtering techniques in microsoft high level shading language
just a shame we couldnt have handled this situation a little different on both parties and some others but as far as this heated debate is concerned im OK
so there you go
and ive come to the conclusion of religion and politics are the biggest creators wars, add gfx cards in the mix also :-]

an answer to the original topic on share and sales
nvidia also have motherboards in the frey so no wonder their green is up on atis
ati have done well even to get close or surpass nvidias money intake in the past or present

FYI, trylinear is the term we came up with to address ATI's "adaptive" trilinear, which they've used for the 9600 series and onward. It's not a misspelling.

I'm not touching the rest of this thread.

I'm agreeing on a thread lock only. Banning should be for obscene name calling and personal attacks. This thread has no useful pupose exept maybe as an indicator of how worthless this section of the forums has gotten lately. Very poorly moderated. It just seems that there is no real enthusiasm about the new GPU's, all trash talk about hardware no one realy has real info on. And that's MY OPINION :)

this thread was created for the sole purpose of flaming ATI fans . . . . and of course they responded 'in kind'.

Do you need examples of the OP's rudeness? Just look at his first post . . . it ws not created to stimulate 'discussion', rather heated 'exchanges'.

Unfortunately this crap is tolerated here . . . Video has the reputation of P&N - compared to GH which also gets out of hand.
:disgust:

i don't think anyone seriously wants ati or nvidia to put the other out of business; neither company is particularly "moral" or "immoral" . . . they just do what most business do - promote their own product aggressively. ;)

if you wanna pick on someone, pick on RAMBUS :p

:D

and i am not for a "ban" for [almost] anyone . . . just responding to someone calling for the ban of someone else. ;)

That is a nice change, both companies seem to admit it much quicker when caught. Leaves me wondering about the pr person that does not know the difference between 1.1 and 2.0 shaders. So the question, is ATI having yield problems or just getting rid of old stock before releasing new? So much fud by both companies, it is hard to know.

PR people in general have been a bit of a worry in the computer industry. One good thing that did come out of nV30 was nVidia's realisation that bad PR only ends up hurting the company, a lesson that ATi still needs to learn.

As for R520 I genuinely believe it is yield problems, but, I must say I am extremely suprised ATi hasn't learned from R42x when the yield problem first arose. However, when things go wrong at TSMC with a process there isn't much anyone can do to improve the situation. I said long ago that I thought ATi trying to manufacture a large chip on Low-k was risky, no matter how mature TSMC and Applied Technologies might claim the process is, and my view on that hasn't changed.

Of course they have. IIRC there was even a big press release where a couple of ATi engineers challenged people to find problems with their method.
