Protests Underway

WASHINGTON (AP) - Protesters chained themselves together, set tires on fire, and harassed police with false 911 calls Friday in an effort to shut down the nation's capital as financial ministers from around the world began a weekend meeting.

City police, who brought in reinforcements from as far away as Chicago and Lowell, Mass., arrested 21 demonstrators who chained themselves together in a busy downtown intersection, jamming morning commuter traffic, police Capt. Ralph McLean said.

Fire trucks were called to put out tires set ablaze on the outskirts of town, and protesters broke windows at a Citibank office and tossed smoky flares during a clash with police at another intersection. "This is not a police state, we have a right to demonstrate," the protesters chanted.

Link to full story.

What kind of moron ties up emergency services lines to protest? How many true emergencies encountered a busy signal because these idiots decide that this is one way to disrupt the lives of ordinary citizens that just happen to live or work in the Nations Capitol? I am sickened by what these people are doing here today and it in no way reconciles with their rights as enumerated below.

How do they reconcile these actions with this:
Amendment I

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

This is what they invented Pepper Spray for. The Police will rub it into their eyes until the finally uncuff themselves. It works well and is always good for a laugh.

Ha, all 911 calls are traced and voices can be matched to calls even if they are made from a pay phone. Making false 911 calls is illegal and I'll be surprised if fines aren't given. A stupid way to protest.

Scoop up the buring tires in a front end loader and bring em to where they chained them selves. then dump. They'd set themselves free real quick

Its a matter of scale. There are supposedly at least 20,000 of these vermin here and if even a fraction of them are engaging in tieing up the 911 system using pay phones I doubt many of them will get caught. They also have threatened to ride bicycles on major interstates to screw with traffic. I can only hope they get their wish of anarchy if this happens as people take the law into their own hands and show them the end result of Ford Excursion VS mountain bike on the beltway.

Seriosuly, I hate these fools and what they do to the city every year they protest. Obviously there are other ways to get their message accross.

At one point I agreed with some of them.

Now I agree with the ideas but hate all of them.:|

It was a joke that went over your head ;)

Replace "Capsicum" with "hydrochloric acid"

OUCH

Sulfuric for the feisty ones:D

i like hydroflouric myself. its a weak acid, but it'll kill you more easily than the other two named.

And it goes through glasses too! What a benefit! Now there's no hiding...

Replace "pepper spray" with "wood shampoo." There's nothing like a good beating to get someone to break the chain.

Since I'm in the D.C. area, our news has been filled with special reports since the protesting started. I have a feeling that it's going to be an interesting weekend in downtown D.C.

The latest I saw said they had arrested 500 of them so far. There were a bunch of them screwing with traffic on 14th street that got arrested and evidently all the Virginia State Troopers at the bridges made them rethink that idea for the morning rush hour.

I wanna see those new sound thingies become better developed. Those that use really low frequencies and can be directed. Point it at the protesters, turn it on, and it "causes abdominal discomfort" is what it says. Really makes you sh!t your pants :)

I agree with some of their views, but not how they are going about to express them.

The idiots should be jailed, and locked up with Bubba.

They should start being real protestors and light themselves on fire. Pansies...
