Im making a list of games i want to buy, give me some suggestions please. Ive been raking through gameplay.co.uk's list of games and seen a lot that may be decent, so many seem to be riddled with bugs nowadays though, ive been using wiki to tell which games are good and which arent.

Heres whats on my list already:

1. Crysis
2. Total Annihilation (bit late to the party but whatever i enjoyed sup com so ill try this too)
3. Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 deluxe edition

Heres whats in the maybe pile (tell me about the game if you have opinions on it)

1. Quake wars - Whats this all about? Is it basically battlefield 2 in the quake universe?

2. Unreal tournament III - Same question as quake wars

3. Silent hunter 4 - Never played a sub sim before, looks fun, any takes on it? Seems to be well recieved except for the bugs.

4. World In Conflict - I dont wanna just buy because it has a hammer and sickle on it lol. Is there a good story? I hear the sides are both the same, is this like there exactly the same, or theyre just very similar, as in both have a light medium and heavy tanks with slight differences etc?

Heres things that people are likely to suggest that i already own and what i thought of them:

1. Supreme commander + exp - liked
2. All the c&c's - really liked
3. Orange box - really liked
4. Starcraft - best game ever made
5. All the GTA's - really liked
6. Civ II/III/IV - liked
7. Age of empires II/III - liked
8. Company of heros + expansion - really liked
9. FEAR - didnt like
10. Gears of war (on xbox) - liked
11. Sims 2 - meh
12. Battlefield 2 - meh
13. STALKER - meh
14. Oblivion - kinda liked
15. Chronicles of riddick - liked
16. Quake 4/Doom3/Prey - liked meh meh
17. Bioshock - liked

Anything i should add to the list of games i need to buy?

I haven't played it but will be picking it up soon and have heard a lot of good about it, The Witcher.

As for your maybe pile, Quake Wars is basically what you think it is and it has a very small community, not good for a multiplayer game. UT3, same as all the other UT's basically expect the community is really small right now for some reason so it might be worth just holding off id say, I wish I did.

Silent Hunter 4, never played but I'm in the same boat as you

If you like fast-paced shooters, Call of Duty 4 is excellent. The best single-player I've played in awhile, and multiplayer is phenomenal.

If you're into real-time-strategy games you might like Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War -Dark Crusade-, which in my humble opinion is the best RTS to have ever been created, closely followed by Command & Conquer 2 (A.K.A C&C: Tiberian Sun -Firestorm-).

Silent Hunter 4 (or SHIV) is probably the best and most realistic sim out there...however, get it patched to 1.3 before you even try to play, otherwise it's just a bug box. That game is not for people that like to shoot things 24/7 with unlimited ammo and action. it's SLOW, methodical and require...MATH (unless you use predetermined firing solutions which make the game suck). IMO the best sim ever and a lot of fun for the people that like things like chess and have patience. If you like running into battle guns blazing, pass this one up.

Roller Coaster Tycoon 3...Bought it...Never opened it :) How much will you give me? LOL

Crysis was a lot of fun up to the point when I stopped playing. the reason being that I like Company of Heroes more. I don't know why but that game (with the expansion) is a LOT of fun. I play offline, though the multiplayer online is fun too. I can't get enough of that game, calling in Tigers to level Shermans or using the British Howitzers to level a village I think the Germans might be in. A great game, I chose it over World in Conflict because WiC looks like an all out clickfest. Don't get me wrong because I plan on getting it in the future (nuking the kingdome looked like a riot) :) I just like the small scale tactical nature of CoH more than WiC

What was the other...Quake? That game is strange if you're not an online player. I play it because I like the realism (get shot in the head, you die...) rather than games that have you taking bullets like a crackhead. But the fast action offline and the rather simple A.I. leave a bit to be desired in teamplay. Online I'm sure it's a much different story.

UT3 I've heard sucks. It got good reviews, but if you're not into that capture the flag kind of respawning action (read: less tactical) then don't bother with it. I'll never buy it, I got QW:ET free with my 8800GT, and unless I got UT3 free as well, I can't say I'd ever pick up a copy.

Hope all that helped, I might comment on the others later.

I just noticed you have CoH, in which case, WiC is your next step up.
And if you liked Orange Box, Crysis will likely dominate it (much less loading, less choppy feel in the game).
I'd say go with CoD4, everyone's talking about that more than they are Crysis, and here's why...Buy CoD4 now while the hardware is good enough to play it. the gameplay is supposedly rewarding and fun. Buy Crysis next year when your hardware can max out the settings and Crysis pt.2 is on the way (it's a 3 part series). The game will still look great and maybe the story will make more sense by then.

Thanks for the opinions guys.

Im getting the jist that i should definately buy CoD 4, ill put that on my list then. Im gonna get crysis for sure though even if it runs like a turtle stuck in tar on my 7900GTO, i can come back to it later if its a good game. I did that with farcry a few times, played it originally on a 9800 pro, then on an X1900XT and since that piece of trash broke a 7900GTO, ran well on everything. I was easier with the settings back in 2003 with my 9800 though.

Silent hunter 4 dosent sound like my typical game, but it sounds like something i would enjoy. Ive liked every turn based game ive played so far and those required patience to an extent so i got no problems with a slower paced game like SHIV. I really want to sink a yamato class, or some civillian transports, either or.

Ill leave quake and UT 3 for now if they arent all theyre cracked up to be.

So if i liked CoH + expansion ill like WiC? Ok then, i actually didnt enjoy the original CoH much, it would be under my "liked" category instead of "really liked", i really liked the new expansion though, having 4 factions instead of just 2 really adds to the game you can really mix it up and have a lot more fun online with 4 factions rather than america vs wehrmacht all the time.

yeah, i'd have to say i agree with you regarding the CoH expansion. The original wasn't as good as the expansion but adding the brits vs. the wehrmacht made the game new again, ect.

As far as SHIV goes, good luck sinking a Yamato :) I've never been able to sink it, but I play on 100% realism too...so i'm usually low on fuel by the time I get near the Yamato port anyway and I have to be hasty. It is a really really fun game but if you think turn based is slow... :) you're in for a wake up call. Once the action gets going it's a matter of plotting the direction, speed, AoB of your prey, setting torpedo depths, angles, speeds, and detonation types...deciding which torpedoes you want to use (Mk 14/Mk18, etc.) This is all done via sonar mind you around 300ft. below water...unless you want to take the risk of getting seen and shot at. Ect. etc. when you're ready to fire, it's battlestations, surface (or periscope depth), fire spread, crash dive below the thermalcline and silent running, dropping a decoy on the way down with a rudder change immediately after and then doing zig-zags until you've shaken the patrol (if you indeed were seen). I might note that at 100% realism you can't use the above water camera (which I sometimes disable) so if you truly play 100% you don't even get to see things go bang, which makes it even more tense.

If this sound like fun, then this game is for you. if it sounds like it's too much, then i'd save the money...I love this game though, but realistically there are a very few who play it.

I forgot to mention my 2nd all time favorite game...X3, though this needs to get patched up too. it's really a game that can be anything you want. Trader, shooter, business game, it's your call. With a weak story line that you don't even have to follow, you fly around space trading or killing whoever you want and developing a rep with different races depending on your actions. the economy is actually dynamic so killing off all the solar refinaries in a system will yield increased energy prices...leaving you the option of setting up shop and reaping the benefits...if you survive long enough that is. Or you can go out pirate hunting, or patrol sectors looking for work as a civilian transporter, it's up to you. Definately buggy though and requires a bit of patchwork, and the learning curve is mean if you haven't played the previous games, but it's a lot of fun.

now let's hope far cry 2 is cool when it hits next year. I don't like the sound of that whole malaria thing though...

Call of Duty, Painkiller (the original/exp, not the new one), and Serious Sam. Psychonauts is worth a play if you have a gamepad.

I'm going to toss in Titan Quest and Titan Quest: Immortal Throne for some RPG lovin'. I love a game where you spend time comparing items just to see what you should keep, only to find something better on the next thing you kill. :D

I actually have WoW, but i could never bring myself to pay monthly for it. Very nice game, last xmas during the trial i visited santa in ironholm, a few minutes later some horde people ran into ironholm so i ran to the subway, they came into the subway a few minutes later then danced around me and stuff, looked like sexual abuse but they ran off after my train came.

I can see why people get addicted to WoW, it would be a lot of fun running around horde territory picking on newbs, i was level 30 on a pvp server, didnt get further before my trial ran out, so i never got to kill newbs :(

World In Conflict has MANY good reviews. I highly recommend checking out this place called www.google.com.

1. Type in "World In Conflict" and Reviews.
2. Set aside lots of time to read them all.

I did and am very grateful for it.

Your "definate" list is good, but not so sure about your maybe. I haven't heard the best things about Quake Wars and Unreal Tournament. I was tempted to get Quake Wars a while back, but have backed off since due to "discontent" in various forums. There really seems to be a draught recently and I'm just replaying stuff now.

I got Quake free with my video card and I want my money back ;) I installed that game about an hour after I got it...re-installed it last week to try it again...uninstalled it in an hour again, it's that redundant.
