Sorry to be the turd in the punchbowl here, but Crytek went multiplatform like everyone else. Their titles will now be concentrated heavily for the consoles since those are expected to be their top $$$. Their new graphics engine has specs geared directly towards console, in fact, all Cryengine 3 is, is Cryengine 2.0 with refined code and seperate PS3 and 360 specific code added to the already pc development engine. basically 3 engines in one that all can be crossed over to each other.
Practically all the pc games these days are "ports".

agreed. Even on max settings, Crysis the actual game doesn't hold a candle to the original screenshots.

its what they call "photo editing and enhancement". Theres actually good money in it and quite a few companies pretty much thrive off of game companies who contract them to touch up their shots for ads, internet and some magazine ads, some of them are passed out to websites like gamespot to display. I know cause my g/f works for one of them, she just proof reads though, doesnt do the actual enhancements which i think is all digital nowadays anyway. They used to do it all by hand somehow but all this should be no news to anyone, i think their company used to do some of the comodore 64 screenshots for retail boxes, probably magazines too but its definitly used alot nowadays it seems. However i think some reviewers are allowed to use their own screenshots, but thats usually after the game is released afaik.

No, it's because you are all doing it wrong.

Crysis on stock looks great, but it's nothing exceptional except it a few levels.

With the HP Ultra High Config, Ultima TOD mod, and Rygel's Texture pack you get results like

this
this

and this

The engine is capable of producing the graphics that were in the E3 demo, but it of course requires a powerful machine to get acceptable framerates. GTX 280 is a minimum.

It's pretty funny that Cryengine 3 will end up looking worse than Cryengine 2 because it's also being developed for the 360 and PS3. Probably the first engine that looks worse than its predecessor.

I did the HP config, Ultima mod, and rygel's texture pack and I don't get anything near those images.

Unless he's lying and they truly are working retroactively on the engine.

Go back and look at all his public statements. He is in fact a liar.
However to be fair, there is nothing to sacrifice on PC, but they may hold back some so that its playable for most people. If they concentrate on the consoles like they said they planned to after that little spat they had with pirating of Crysis, then its likely the PC version will have the same models, artificial intelligence

That was jsut their excuse to enter the console market. Crysis sold very well but Crytek just wanted more money.

games like crysis don't really do it for me. i'd much rather see a game that runs well on midrange systems and looks good. once i turn down everything in crysis to make it playable, it looks much WORSE than other games that are years older than crysis.

This thread discussion isn't for you.

ha! and it is for you?

i have better specs than your comp (in your sig) anyways.

Then what are you playing it at so that it looks worse than games that are years older than crysis? That's not right. I have a simple AthlonXP 5000x2 and an 8800GT. The game on lower settings still looks better than most games.

exactly. Game looked great when I played it on my rig, ran smooth as well. You don't hear me whining about games for midrange systems either. This discussion is about the next game to be the graphic champ, not the next game for midrange systems graphic champ.

The thing is that even though Crysis 2 will most likely look better on pc, it will still be on consoles. So when console gamers ask what game do you have that we don't, we won't have anything to say. Battlefield 3 looks like it will be an exclusive, but beyond that and Blizzard games, where are the exclusives?

I'm ok with it being on consoles. In this case, I like what Crytek is doing with their engine. I like the editor, and if they can spend some of their resources to port things to console to earn more cash, then super. Down the road, they can buy more studios and make more games.

I'd love to see a Predator remake using CryEngine5 in the coming years. Throw some 3D goggles in the mix.. damn. good thoughts.

It might be the other way around.

How do you figure? In regards to PC, which CryEngine2 was originally developed for, there may only be sacrifices in the games that are made to accomodate the resources available from a console, but for PC only content the sky will be the limit. CryEngine3 is essentially CryEngine 2.5 for the PC (refined/patched version of 2) + Newly available console functions..

And it Crytek, and I work with the Sandbox. It won't be difficult for them to make any PC version of a game PC worthy. That's what makes it exciting.

What I'm actually hoping for is the ability make my own levels in the Sandbox and get them onto console. That would be cool!
