<< the offial sony dvd remote as seen here which comes with a ton of features but does NOT include a controller pass-through meaning in order to use it, you must first unplug one of your controllers.

the 2nd remote i recommend is the Pelican Accessories remote as seen here. this does come with a controller passthrough so that you can have the dvd remote working at all times including leaving both controllers hooked up to your PS2. this is the remote i bought because of convenience. the sony official remote is the one to buy for extra features.

I own both of these, they both have their strenghts and weaknesses. Sony one has no pass-thru and takes up 2 megs(!) of your memory card. The Pelicans has a pass-thru port, but it looks and feels cheap and the range is suck. My TV remote even interferes with it sometimes. So I'd go with the Sony remote.

I'll take the xbox only because of its built-in network support. I don't know about you folks, but I get bored easily playing against a computer opponent. I want to play against other humans, the xbox allows that with its games. Sure PS2/Gamecube may get networking support later on, but it's like saying you can add a printer to a console -- few games are going to support that feature.

I somehow feel that having broadband-only support for a console is not too smart. Here are my reasons:

1. Less than 10% (maybe less) of families in the U.S. have broadband. Though, more than likely if u can afford an X-box + $50/each games you can afford the $40/month for Cable/DSL. However, I don't think it will convince too many people to get a broadband connection just for their gaming machine for little Johnny/Katie to play their video games on.

2. Location. I don't know about other people, but I play my gaming consoles on my home entertainment center which is in my family room. I didn't wire this room for my LAN since I didn't anticipate having a computer near my home entertainment center. I think this is a pretty large point. Maybe having the option to do WiFi 802.11b, but that may be too expensive/difficult to implement

This is definitely true and is why the PS2/Gamecube will not be able to succeed by offering ethernet as an option. Game developers will not want to bother with it since only a fraction of the consumers will be able to actually use ethernet. With xbox it's different, it's already developed for since everyone has it. Whether people use the feature or not doesn't matter. There's going to be plenty of users online to overload any given server.

You make absolutely NO sense. First you dismiss ethernet on PS2 and Gamecube because "Game developers will not want to bother with it since only a fraction of the consumers will be able to use ethernet." Point A: I'm not sure about GC, but PS2 is offering dialup on the modem box in addition to ethernet, AND it has firewire which you could theoretically use if you're so inclined. Talk about options. X-Box IS different, as you say in your badly mangled sentence that has little or no relation to proper grammar, but the difference is that X-Box has *ONLY* ethernet. I think what you're trying to say is that developers may do it because every box comes standard with the feature, so it's guaranteed to be there; Great, who cares? As I've pointed out before, almost every game that's multiplayer-able on X-box and/or coming to X-box in the announced future is either on PC (and better) or coming to PC (and will be better). PS2 has exclusive games; and developers will develop the multiplayer for PS2 and GameCube as well. Obviously if someone wants to do the multiplayer, they will HAVE the modem and ability to do so. It makes no difference at all if it comes standard or not.

YOu think that ps3 won't come out till 2004? I doubt it, it will probably come out this year(2002 at christmas) why will it do this? because sony is getting lots of competition from other systems, and because ps1 was released in 1998 right?(I think) then ps2 in 2000? so it would be logical to conclude that ps3 will come out in 2002

Actually now that I think about it PS2 probably will come out either Christmas 2002 or 2nd Quarter 2003...I just said 2004 because it was posted earlier. 2004 will probably be its boom year for games, anyway.

PS1 came out in late 95 or early 96 I believe. My first gen unit w/ the different plug still works but I gotta turn it over:p so I think PS3 in late 2002 in a longshot considering good games for PS2 only started coming out recently.

FreAk:D

I REALLY wanna try MGS2 and DOA3 though...

The PS2 is the way to go right now.

Get Cube if you love exclusive Nintendo 1st/2nd party games.

Get an Xbox only is you don't like to play games on your PC much.

Gameboy Advance. I dont even have to get out of bed to play games. If I feel like getting up I will play PC or DC.

I read in a megazine that PS3 will be out in 2004, but i did not read the whole story! :p

i know what to do, i'll stick to PS2 for now and when Xbox hits its 1st year, i'll see if its worth switching to Xbox! :)
