I have had no problems accessing files with Chinese file names, under Win95, Win98, WinME or Win2K. The only time this has ever happened is with shares over the network.

Its not that simple, I've got some anime MP3 CDs, however all the folders are written in Chinese, I dont think there is a way to view them besides using a Chinese version of the Windows.

I think it depends on the OS when you name it. I found that if I input the Japanese/Chinese characters using Win98 and burn it, it would read fine using NJWIN. But if I input in NT4, it would just be garbage.

(That's why I love Japanese so much more, you can just romanize the characters and not get into this mess. While there's like 2 or 3 different ways to 'romanize' the Chinese characters, and no way is official)

With external Chinese viewer (e.g. Unionway, Richwin, NJwin) or not, there is NO way English Win98 can't do that, SUCKS. It is NOT a unicode OS.

With external viewers you can create files/folders in Chinese and you can read them under English windows. BUT then there is NO way for Chinese Windows 9x to read them. SUCKS.

Time to go WIN2000 buddy!

<<Erm.....you can't change file names on a CD.....>>

I tried to copy the folder to my hard drive, then change the name. But guess what, you can't! An "Error Copying File or Folder" message will appear.

Again, I will state that I have never had any problems with Chinese named folders or files on my Win9x and Win2K systems. I agree that filenames and folders created with RichWin, Union Way, NJStar under English Win9x cannot be resolved in Chinese Win9x, but if you install those viewers under Chinese Win9x, they sometimes manage to work too.

Yes, Win2K with the Multi Language User Interface is the way to go.
