What folder or registry key holds the "default messages?"

Know how WinXP has the default popup messages, things like "Have you forgotten your password?" when you enter the wrong password?

Where are those messages located? I want to change some of them for comedic purposes.

Thanks.

What you need is a resource viewer/editor, i.e. something like AATools but better (names escape me at the moment). I had a quick look and shell32 and winlogon.exe (in WINDOWS\system32) both have lots of common messages within, as will a few other files within this folder. The bad thing is, the likes of winlogon are used by windows so you can't overwrite it unless you boot to another OS, even then I'm not sure how a modified winlogon.exe file would even be taken by windows. 🙂 It's enough to get you going though.

Thanks a lot, Snapster. I had no idea I'd need a 3rd party tool. I'll look into it.

In the meantime, I think I'll set a new System Restore point, then go in and mess around. 😀

Hmm, I opened shell32 with Word and it's all machine code looking. Any of those aforementioned apps freeware?
