Didn't know you were 70. I always thought you were younger than that.

Hell, almost every bill we have, mortgage, car payment, MOST utilities...are on auto pay. Don't have to bother with checks...or forgetting the due date...they just "pay themselves." I think the only utility bill we don't have on auto pay is the city water bill...easier to keep track of consumption costs when I actually see the bill...that's how I found a toilet with a leaky flapper...water bill went up significantly between bi-monthly billing periods.

I cant seem to get very many websites working for me, so I mostly pay bills by check.
Grass, HOA, Mortgage, electricity, insurance, water, waste, and cable.
Thats like 7 checks a month.
They come in little books of 25.

THAT AINT ENOUGH!

That sounds like a pain in the ass. Why not setup preauthorized payment? Send a void cheque once and never worry about it again.

I prepay my electric in $500 chunks. That gives me the convenience of autopay, and nobody digging in my accounts. That's about two payments per year. I'm not switching providers, and I'm not going anywhere. so if I die or something, it'll be someone else's problem, and they can battle it out for ≤$500 if they feel like it.

So... this is not a pigeon! I suck at IDing birds I guess, and when I first saw it, it looked like one. But this is actually a Common Nighthawk and contrary to it's name it's not common and is a federally and provincially protected species! Damn.

Called a rehab centre and based on my description they don't think it can be rehabbed so they suggested to get a vet or humane society to put it down humanly. Hoping I can get one tomorrow to do it, hate to see it suffer. I kinda feel bad for not acting on it sooner today. I did not figure it would survive the night tbh and it did. The rehab centre is almost 3 hours from here and I start night shift tomorrow so driving there and back is out of question as it would require getting up early which I can't really do if I work nights. So yeah hopefully someone will take it in tomorrow locally.

That's actually a very good question and I have a very good answer.

Because I cant physically go the bank right now (they are not letting customers inside) and because I cant seem to get banking websites to work for me (long story) and because I haven't been able to collect on any of my moms insurance policies (they are stonewalling even though I'm pretty sure the quarantine isnt actually affecting them) I have to be very careful with how and when I pay stuff. I am unable to check up on my accounts instantly and I need to be careful with checks and with my balances.

I really REALLY should have been taking care of moms bills before she died, when no one had any excuses to not be able to help me online or over the phone. Should have set up as many things as possible to pay online. Also, this sounds ghoulish, but I should have made a separate file or drawer for her insurance policies, so I would have been ready right away when she passed. But I was miserable and feeling sorry for myself and feeling sorry for her and I just didn't have the guts to start doing that stuff last year. If I'd had all my ducks in a row I could have started doing all that crap well before Christmas. Now everyone is moving slowly, including probate court, and I cant get things done. Its such a pain.

The worst part?
Mom was a paralegal for about 40 years and super organized and she would have been able to handle all this shit easily and in considerably less time. Her only fault was not trusting online payments so she did everything by mail. But as organized as she was it never became a problem. Like I said, looking back I should have taken over this stuff when she started getting sick, both to ease her burden and slowly learn how to deal with things for myself.

Unrelated: Being a homeowner is SO FUCKING MISERABLE. The siding is falling off and I don't know who to contact about that. The lawn is a wreck but I cannot afford to fix it up right now. Little things keep breaking and some of it I know how to fix, most I do not. And going thru the basement taught me I got way too much crap but I might not be able to sell it and most of it I don't feel like just giving away either.

Sounds like a pain, hate when sites don't work properly because they are overly designed for nothing. Worse is requiring plugins for stuff that should not require a plugin, like displaying basic text or images, or sites that break because of adblock etc. I'm sure dealing with your mom being gone is probably hard and sad in itself, dealing with all the other stuff makes it worse.

And yeah home projects seem to never end. Siding is not hard, but it's expensive. Probably not possible to get just one piece either as they probably don't make that kind anymore so you'd almost have to redo the whole thing. The outside of my own house such as driveway could use work but I just don't want to put the money into it when I can put it towards something more practical.

Actually as a quick fix I could set up the 12 foot ladder and slap some nails in there. Should probably do that tomorrow. When I get around to selling the house I can have a dude fix everything.

For the part i bolded, you don't need to go to the bank or their website. Say, for electric... tell your electric provider you want to setup an autopay. Send them a voided check. Done.
Same with any other bills you want to do that way.

Yeah, if you need to watch your balance that might not be the best option for now.

Sorry to hear about your mother :(

I've got serious insomnia.

Its a first world problem because there's no good reason for it.
I'm in a nice house with a comfortable bed. I don't have any serious problems right now aside from depression and anxiety, and diabetes, and kidney stones.
Actually now that I think about it I have real problems, and that's why I can't sleep.
Anyway, I think I need to try getting up and laying down at reasonable times, getting some serious exercise and sunlight during the day, and maybe wean myself off caffeine. Also I need a goal of fat loss. Maybe get a battery back in the scale. Lets say I'm 200 now, I need to get down to 160 by election day. Or maybe by Christmas. If I eat more greens and cut out the garbage, I think I could do it.

SOUND POSSIBLE??

I hate when I can't sleep and have to get up early the next morning, it's the worse thing ever just lying there and frustrated at not being able to sleep. I often give myself a time to fall asleep by, and if I don't manage by then I just call the night a write off and get up. I find getting not enough sleep is worse than not getting any sleep at all. So like if I need to be up by 6am, I'll tell myself that if I don't fall asleep by 3, I'll just get up.

But yeah if this is happening all the time there might be some things you can do. Definitely try to get up earlier even on days off. It's hard but I set myself a reasonable goal like 10am. If I don't set an alarm I can easily sleep past 2pm, which screws me up and makes me feel groggy, and also makes it hard to go to bed early, so it's a vicious cycle. So I try to be up by at least 10am. I sometimes even aim for 8am but that rarely happens as much as I want it to. When I'm in bed in the morning and know I don't HAVE to get up, I won't. But by 10 I won't be as tired as at 8 and manage to give myself the force it takes to get up.

I really need to fix my diet myself, I eat too much processed crap and it will eventually catch up with me. I hate cooking, and I generally suck at it and everything is just bland, but I really need to push myself to learn more recipes. It's just so much work, having to google all the ingredients to even know what they are then try to find them in the grocery store then actually do the work of making the thing. It turns into a huge research project and I end up just ordering pizza or poutine instead or eat some premade deli meal.

I do get half decent amount of vegetables though as I will usually steam some to have with the processed crap. So it's something I guess, lol. But even then, if I buy a TV dinner that has vegetables they taste so much better than the ones I do. I don't get it.

What's weird though is I manage to stay at a decent weight, I'm at like 143 right now. But weight is not everything, I still need to work on eating healthier.

Irregular sleep.

I started eating vegetables again.
My tongue is furious and belligerent.
My stomach indicated (rather bluntly) that such nonsense is not to be tolerated, and punished me quite severely this morning.

Still trying to find someone to put down this bird, who knew it would be this hard lol.

If I was not in town, had a gun, and it was not an endangered species I'd consider doing it myself but best to go through proper channels.

You sure the bird can't be fixed? If so, you can grab it's body, grab it's head, and give a firm twist.

The wing was practically fully out just held by basically skin/muscle. If the rehab place was not 3 hours from here I would have brought it just in case there actually is something they can do but when I spoke with them they figured probably not. Ended up bringing it to the humane society and they will take care of putting it down. They normally don't deal with wildlife but they were willing to take it in.
