Another FWP: My power went out and I never got an alert on my phone. Turns out none of my monitoring alerts have not been going out for months. Need to figure out why. I need to do some serious updates on my monitoring system anyway, right now it just sends the emails using raw SMTP commands. I should probably see if I can make it use sendmail or something like that.
No power = no internet lol

Found some free food tied to the back of a train. Had to fight off some raccoons for it. Nothing in it but classic Lay's potato chips.

Fuck M$ and Fuck Apple website/app designers who can't put simple information in an easily accessible place. I'm looking for my XBL subscription info and when I expire. I've spent the last 5 minutes on the MS/Xbox website looking for it and still can't find it. Even with their search bar and yes I'm logged in. WTF are you "professionals" doing with the UX design with 101 links???? Same goes for Apple and looking for account balance information on an Ipad. I wanted to throw the thing out the fucking window.

edit>> finally found it after going through "Change how you pay for Xbox Live Gold" after going through Billing and Payments after going through "Microsoft account" (not Xbox). Nope, it wasn't in Subscriptions. F YOU motherfuckers. And I never curse.
Sometimes, shit like that is definitely deliberate.

Sometimes I use that paypal feature where you can make recurring payments to someone. Can't remember what they call it - subscription - maybe?

Anyway, maybe a few times per year I like to go into my account and see who is getting payments from me that way and are they supposed to?

The first couple of times I was convinced that they had moved where this info is reported - from on one branch in their Eschereresque menu structure to another. I sort of remembered where it was supposed to be but wasn't sure.

I don't know if they really did move it but every time I go to do this, it's always like I'm feeling around in the dark because the one thing I'm pretty sure of is that like your situation, it was someplace completely unintuitive.

Ordered a bunch of rigging gear, and got a free bag of rope ends that usually costs $80. More than half of it is only marginally useful to me; small diameter polypro that I can't really use for tree work. I did get some fun stuff, but I was hoping for some hitch cord, and I didn't get any of that :^(

Internet works fine without power as long as UPS is running. I get around 3-4 hours on it. Enough time to send the alert.

Not really sure what happened as I tested my alerts and everything works fine now.

Not if the dslam or whatever you are hooked up to has no power.

If that fails it means I failed at my job, or one of my coworkers did. ;) Actually, if the office I'm connected to goes down pretty much all of Northern Ontario goes down. So yeah that probably won't happen. :p 10+ hours of battery backup and 2 155kw generators. The smaller offices have plugs for portable generators and in rural areas where they have cabinets they also send tech with smaller generators. Those cabinets sometimes get dropped in massive power outages though as there are only so many techs to go around. Happens more in Quebec they get lot of big power outages that can last days.

Sometimes techs can even charge them with their trucks if there are no generators left. Not sure how that works since they are 48v, guessing they do a 12v section at a time and just move the jumper cables around.

My web server was under heavy attack the other day and I managed to mitigate it, but I wanted to set things back to the way they were just so I can get at tcpdump of the attack since I forgot, but now the attack stopped. :(

I freaking hate how you can't manually setup a mail account in Thunderbird. Even if you hit the manual option it still tries to do server probing crap and won't let you go past that if it fails. I KNOW THE USER IS INVALID BECAUSE I DIDN'T CREATE IT ON THE SERVER JUST LET ME FUCKING MAKE THE ACCOUNT ANYWAY FFS .

Even if everything is valid I've never had that actually work anyway. I keep having to import profiles from the Thunderbird 1.0 days so I can get my accounts setup. This time I'm trying to create an invalid account so I can test my brute force protection but it's just giving me a hard time. Stupid piece of crap. I really need to find a better client.

I’m now on somebody’s marketing list with a feminized version of my name. Today I got coupons for Pink which apparently sells super discount women’s undergarments. As the school year approaches I expect I’ll receive a package for the young lady of the house.
