At retail.. Seriously, thank goodness for online glasses stores. I was getting fleeced. Trying to help a "local business", I paid $430 for a pair right after finishing college, poor as shit. Next pair, I just replaced the lenses on the same frame for $200.

Having said that, they seriously need to come out with stainless steel or metal only frames. Sick of paint coming off where they rub against my sideburns.
 
What the hell... Decided that a Chromebox is the best and simplest option for me, but an almost 2 year old model is still essentially the original MSRP. And Best Buy already cleared their stock over the summer...
 
Have never went the Lasik route myself, but have been wearing contacts since 1976 in various forms.

Have been using the same brand of Bausch & Lomb extended wear for a couple decades now I imagine more or less.

Just had them renewed, I'm used to them after all this time. They had a newer version out, but I love these so why bother, the doctor agreed.

Do not even take them out and sleep in them.

Probably even wear a set longer than I should, but have become so comfortable with them over time I just change a set out when they start to become noticeable I have them in.
 
- Bought an Emax Nighthawk Pro 280 quadcopter.
- Finally got it to arm the motors and spin them.
- Try to fly it. It won't take off, listing to one side.
- Turns out that one of the motors is spinning the wrong way.

I found a single relevant post about it at RCgroups.com, but the solution is one of those useless "I fixed it!" ones, and a link to an unhelpful PDF.

I still can't post anything at RCgroups because a moderator has to approve posts by new members, which could take quite a few hours, evidently. Presumably that's an anti-spam measure.



Speaking of spam, this is also still a first-world problem: It's still illegal to hire someone to act as a real Spam Assassin, and kill people who create spam. They're drains on civilization.

The manual doesn't give pinouts.

And I'm far away from all my test equipment.
But, I'm assuming there's +, -, rpm.
I found one site that just says "Switch two wires from ESC to motor if it spins in the wrong direction." Great. Which two wires? Just any two?


You'd normally hope that the factory wouldn't screw up something like this.


Edit: ooOOOHHhhhh, swap two of the wires.
3 wires.
If it goes the wrong way, just flip two of them.
I've never seen a motor like this.

Contacts in general I could never do. I was considering contacts when I just started getting really fedup of glasses, but the thought of touching and playing in my eyes just makes me cringe, I figured at least LASIK is a one time thing then don't have to have my eyes played with after that.

The very old style LASIK was some freaky stuff though, they basically used a blade to make some slits in the eye ball, it changed the shape or something to adjust the focus, but it was kinda hit and miss.

That sounds like PRK? The infomercials I saw on TV showed Lasik as a vegetable peeler opening up your cornea, lasering to reshape the lens, then putting the flap back.

Anyway, new problem: went to Best Buy to buy a wireless keyboard. There were 3 left, 1 was opened, 2 had cuts on the box. Someone got overzealous or sloppy on the box cutter. Luckily, packing people were smart enough to put a cardboard shell around the keyboard inside.

And people are calling me out for some really lazy and shitty videos I threw on YouTube. I knew they sucked when I threw them up, but still.

Actually yeah I think it was PRK. They still do PRK but it's very similar to LASIK now, except no flap. It involves a bigger recovery period and a temporary contact lens. I contemplated doing PRK as I really did not like the idea of the flap, but I did tons of reading and it's really not as bad as it seems and it does heal back to a point where anything that can damage it would probably have damaged your eye anyway. The first few weeks/months is kinda scary though, I was always so scared to accidentally rub my eyes.

I think I heard that PRK is more difficult for recovery and the operation itself. However, it was better than LASIK in some ways, don't remember what. Works for really bad prescriptions?
 
Tried to catch a falling knife by the blade. If it were like most of my knives and fairly dull, that wouldn't have been such a problem. But this one was really sharp. It barely touched my finger and cut it. Now I have wear a bandaid for at least a day.

Yeah some people can't get LASIK but can get PRK, think it has to do with thickness of cornea. If it's too thin you can't get LASIK. Also if you want to be a professional fighter, or fighter jet pilot, or anything extreme that may cause trauma to your eyes you want to get PRK. But if you want to be an astronaut LASIK is actually ok, but you need a 1 month recovery before going through any kind of training. I figured if NASA is ok with it and only requires 1 month recovery then it's pretty safe. 😀

I still need to find out about sky diving though, that is on my bucket list. I think it's ok to do though, but you need to wear goggles, which might be required anyway... not sure.
 
Actually yeah it's turning into the nef thread. On that note, I think I brought too much food to work, I don't know if I'll be able to eat it all.
 
I just got my first pair of glasses today. I can read the dvd labels across the room but it feels like I'm in clear bowl of water. I also don't think the glasses are going to work well when sitting at my monitor 🙁.

You can get special glasses just for computer use.
And for reading.
And driving.
 
I am running out of reward checking accounts to apply to. Reward checking accounts are accounts that pay decent interest rates (3-4 percent per year) but they limit the amounts between $10K to $30K per account.

What to do with all the money that I have been saving up?

I didn't know what to get so I got progressive lenses :\. The right eye is fine but the left eye is blury when looking through the top part of the lenses. I got short glasses so the reading part is very small and useless for the monitor.

I may have to get a dedicated pair for the computer. My distance varies from 33" when reading to about 22" when I'm gaming. Would a cheap set of reading glasses work at those distances? I can actually read fine but I think my astigmatism needs corrected at those distances.
 
the big agnes fly creek ul1 tent was on sale at REI. had to decide whether or not to pick up the foot print with it or not. decisions.
