What first world problem did you have today?

Found it. Looks like I'm going to deregister it and do a factory reset. That, apparently, leaves recoverable data on the hard drive but meh.

It'd be a third-world problem if you had to trade your kidney or your kneecaps or other "services -- for dental services.

At least winter is coming. I would die if this was just before summer. Icing as we speak. Whoever can say they sleep with their foot elevated is full of shit. That lasts for about 5 minutes. I'll wrap it before bed..... :'(

Yeah. My insurance said they would only cover it if I got care within 48 hours and, of course, no doctors in network had an opening that soon. I wasn't going to the emergency room two days later because that would cost much more. I just hobbled around on thrift-store crutches and did everything I could not to move it until the tendons set, then I did range exercises. My ankle was pretty unstable for the last 14 years due to a sprain that never healed correctly but things feel much better this time despite not getting the boot (I tried!).

Whatever you do, do not let that foot bend. Keep it at it's natural angle for a week. If it's sprained it'll probably support *perfectly vertical* weight in a couple days, but that will tease you into attempting to hobble around and you'll inevitably move it in ways you aren't supposed to and interfere with the tendons reattaching in the right places. Be careful and get it booted ASAP if you can.

The bruising will look much worse tomorrow and even worse the day after that.

My previous work insurance plans have sucked. They covered about 3/4 of the "standard" rates. My dentist of 20+ years appears to charge higher rates and I hate paying out of the ass for this stuff. Got another appointment in a few weeks, there goes $200 for a cleaning -- oh wait, it's like $100 for the cleaning and then tack on two units of scaling for another $100.

Shit, it sounds like we're in the same boat. I have ALWAYS had problems with my ankles. My left one usually took the beating - always twisted/sprained/etc. when I was younger due to skateboarding and soccer. I never really treated it as I should have. Always got back to activity sooner than I should, didn't ice it much, everything that I SHOULD be doing... I didn't. And my parents were too busy working to really keep on me about it. To this day I still have a very weak and sometimes painful left ankle (from Googling, it appears to be some form of peroneal tendinitis).

I also have high arches, and have gone through the podiatrist route many times for plantar fasciitis.. even to the extent of custom orthotics. My right ankle was in perfect shape compared to the left........... until now. Now my partially busted left ankle feels a hell of a lot better than my right one. I'm definitely older and wiser this time around... so I'm going to try to take care of it. In the meantime, I need a wheelchair and a beer.

My right ankle was in perfect shape compared to the left........... until now. Now my partially busted left ankle feels a hell of a lot better than my right one. I'm definitely older and wiser this time around... so I'm going to try to take care of it. In the meantime, I need a wheelchair and a beer.

These days I get debilitating cramps that paralyze my big toe and run through my arches but it usually happens in bed (like a charlie horse). I'm treading a dangerous line here because my foot muscles often seem to tighten and cramp just from thinking about it.

You can't slip your foot into a normal boot without bending it, so it wraps around your foot and has rigid pieces/inserts to immobilize it. I think it's called an immobilization boot but I'm not sure. Pretty sure it's mentioned on the Wiki.

My arches don't hurt - it's always the back of my heel. Usually after a run or any extensive (3+ hour) activity. My daily pain on the left ankle is directly on (more towards the rear) of the ankle bone. With pressure, it feels like a bruised bone would. Interesting. I've had the big toe tendon spasm for the last few years, just like a charlie horse and only in bed.

Try taking some magnesium supplements. 500mg of chelated magnesium might make a big difference. It's one of a couple minerals that are hard to get the full DV of unless you tailor your diet to those specific requirements. And Mg is necessary for muscle relaxation.
