Actually, now I think about it, this has happened before around Christmas/New Year. Parcels went missing at the same time of year. I think it's because the Royal Mail take on lots of temporary staff to cope with the extra Christmas workload (and this time I'm sure it's even worse because of COVID-related staff shortages). And there's always a complement of thieves and incompetents among the temporary staff. Plus the porch-thieves get more active.

My oldest son has his first US Swimming meet today but because of local COVID breakouts it's a closed pool deck and we can't watch him swim.

No streaming. There is a website with real time updates on heat results but no visual feed.

The local 9-1-1 service woke us up at 0456 to tell us that the Tonga volcano had triggered a tsunami...when it finally arrived about 0900, it was puny. Estimates say less than 6" higher than "normal."

Remember in the early days of high speed internet when all of the tech sites recommended DSL over Cable because cable could slow down if there were too many users while DSL would not? Those were the days.
And both keep the speed stupid slow. Cable would offer 1mbps, the phone co. countered with 2mbps, back and forth for the marketing, all while both were capable of higher speeds at the time.

The same time the average internet speed was 2mbps in the US, the average Internet speed in South Korea and a lot of other developed nations was over 50mbps. Cause American corporations and business just love to fuck with consumers and rip them off.

Asshole neighbors recycling wars post #2. Our condo recycling bins have become garbage dumping grounds for every other condo building nearby. People put dog poop and tons of non recyclable crap like clothing and packing materials in our blue bin and then when the waste collector comes we get charged for "contaminated recyclables." People also never break down their fucking Amazon boxes so the bin is overflowing after 1 day.

I took it upon myself to return those misplaced Amazon boxes to my lovely neighbors who throw them into our recycling bin even though they don't live in our building or pay for our recycling service. A quick review of labels on the boxes and I can see the shipping address and I have been kindly returning their missing box to their front porch of the appropriate asshole owner.

The assholes have now adapted. Went down to recycling bin today and there were tons of boxes in our bin. I looked at them and they all had their shipping label deliver to address torn off so I don't know which asshole left their shit in our recycling.

While not in our neighborhood, the grocery store that we go to up the street has a big blue donation bin for only clothes and shoes. People here seem to not be able to understand that requirement as they dump so much junk next to it instead of taking it to the local dump.

The last time I was there with my wife, an older lady (probably in her 60s) with a handicap placard hanging from her rearview mirror on the truck she was driving pulled up to it with a king sized mattress. She got out and lifted that son of bitch right out all by herself, and it was completely shit and piss stained.

I image the donation people loved having to haul that to the dump. :p

Do these people not have their own recycling/garbage service?
I don't understand it. Everyone in our city is required by law to have recycling bins. Ours are in the alley, which is probably a shorter walk for some residents in other buildings versus going to their own building recycling is my guess. Either wad fuck those people for being shitty.

They had to remove some of those clothes bins around here because people were putting their garbage in them.

Currently there is no more recycling in our county due to people throwing their garbage in there & they said it was too costly to keep cleaning the bins. Only if your garbage pickup provider offers recycling pickup can you recycle anything here. Well, most anything... plastic, metal food cans, paper/cardboard, glass, a few other things.
There's still a place that takes aluminum cans & other metals that will pay you & a place to take electronics that you have to pay for them to take it.

We've been feeding a pair of feral kittens and trying to get them socialized for adoption. This morning, we put the food out and they dove in. Checking up a few minutes later, no kittens and the bowls were mostly uneaten. We figured something had spooked them. Later on, I looked out and the bowls were gone from the porch. I had been doing dishes and left the dish water to wash the bowls when the kittens were finished. I mentioned the missing bowls to my wife, asking if the kittens had come back to finish. She said that she hadn't looked yet.

We went looking for the bowls and found one far out in the yard and the second on the sidewalk. Later, one of the kittens climbed down a tree, sporting poofy tail. I suspect a raccoon.

Fckn raccoons. We have herds of them here...idiots all over town feed them...then wonder why those "cute little darlings" have gotten so aggressive.
Unfortunately, there is no hunting here, so other than coyotes, bobcats, cougars, bears...and cars, they live relatively safe, happy lives, and are usually fat little bastards.

Yes we have those donation bins here too and they are always overloaded and people put garbage in them. People don't give a shit about recycling or the environment, which is extremely depressing.
