The Netherlands. and the one i see daily on the station has been around for a good three years, i guess. I noticed the starbucks shop when i wanted to buy a coffee and saw the prices. I decided it was not worth it.

The prices for starbucks coffee and starbucks coffee drinks here in the U.S. are pretty much on par with other major coffee chains. It is at a premium over chains such as McDonalds and other fast food places, but I rate the quality of starbucks coffee to be much higher than fast food places.

Coffee is definitely universal.

What's also universal is the willingness to overpay for bad coffee based on marketing and a manufactured perception of quality. Starbucks is swill, even the people who drink it HATE it in blind taste tests. It's the coffee equivalent of Grey Goose. I get the worldwide coffee craze, people love the aroma and it's as much a daily ritual as it is a beverage. I just don't understand why people go to Starbucks. Walk into any random no-name generic coffee house in any city in the world and it's about 99% likely that what they're serving is both better and cheaper.

Everyone doesn't live in cities. I can think of two coffee shops that aren't Starbucks in a 20 mile radius of me. There may be more, but not substantially more. Starbucks does a competent job of making coffee, and they're everywhere. It's a fun meme to shit on Starbucks by faux elitists, but it isn't based in fact. An argument can be made about the finer points, but in no way is Starbucks "swill".

I don't need to link to "double blind taste tests". I'm not some precious little turd muffin that has to have everything perfect in my life. Starbucks makes competent coffee, and when they first started, they made the best mass produced, ready to drink coffee. All the choices you have now, in both the grocery, and over the counter, you can thank Starbucks for. They blazed the trail, and made /better than average/ coffee a thing in America.

1) you can't go into a normal coffee shop and get a venti mocha frap with an added quad shot
2) most places make a shitty soy chai latte compared to Starbucks
3) their iced coffee is better than most and way better than DK. Not to mention free refills while drinking in store (with Starbucks card)

Update on my furnace problem: Turns out I had my term for blower motor wrong and now I can't remember the correct name for the thing. It's the small motor that blows the fumes out of the furnace. That is what I thought it was but it turns out it was the limit switch. The limit switch detects if the furnace is over heating. Then he was standing there and noticed another sensor of which I can't remember the name was acting funny. This sensor senses whether there is a flame or not. So he replaced two sensors and we now have heat in time for the temperature drop. Didn't even charge us a thing! There are still good people in this world by god.

His wife wants nothing to do with the cat, but it looks like he may be getting a divorce as things aren't working out which means he can have his cat back. Since we had this cat he's gotten a belly. oh god it gets worse. this fruit platter has fucking SEEDS. what the fuck, who serves up a fruit platter filled with seedy fruit. FEED ME GENETICALLY MODIFIED SEEDLESS GRAPES/WATERMELON ASSHOLES.

this may be the worst fruit platter I've ever had - seeded watermelon/grapes and the cantaloupe is flavorless and not sweet. the pineapple isn't doing much better.

now the hard part - suffocate down this fruit or be wasteful and let it go.
