The old hospital (where I was born) is about 1k feet from my house, as the crow flies. After being a hospital, it was used by the county for offices but has been empty for several years. Since it's "historic", an act of congress couldn't get it torn down. A contractor agreed to pay $650k, keep the historic value and put condos in it. At the last minute, an out of state buyer offered $1.1m with the same historic contingent. "Sold," the county says. The out of state buyer's m.o. is section 8 housing. I consider my dead neighbors a plus. This, not so much. Woot for property values....
