My drone controller takes longer to charge than the actual drone, and I really want it to finish before sun set so I can get some cool winter photography. Never took it out during the day in winter yet.

I really need to figure out why my file server is so bloody slow.

Copying data off my SSD and it's pegged at 16MB/sec. I should be doing at least 120MB/sec over gigabit.

Wonder if ZFS would be faster than md raid. Or maybe it's NFS that's slow.

Gigabit rarely does more than 100MB/sec regardless. There's link overhead.

NFS is not slow. It's usually the faster option vs. CIFS.

ZFS usually needs some tuning - out of the box with defaults, it can be crazy slow once it runs out of RAM cache. So I wouldn't recommend switching to it if you're already lucky enough not to be using it.

Are you possibly connected via the LAN ports on a router that are only 100Mbps? Or is your computer preferring to use its wifi instead of eth0?

Nope no wifi, and everything is gig to my core switch. It's weird, something is bottlenecking it, it won't go any higher than 16. I've always had issues with my NFS server being slow but did not realize it was this bad. During backup jobs it grinds to a halt, and VMs sometimes even crash. It's gotten worse in the past few weeks for some reason. My game server keeps crashing because it literally starves for I/O and the VMDK can't keep up with writes.

I get around 111MB/sec with iperf. Bottleneck seems to be NFS or the raid. Not really sure which though.

Weird, right on the file server I get around 365MB/sec with dd and if I do dd over nfs I get 90MB/sec which is more acceptable. I don't know why real world scenarios are that much slower than benchmark.

Too many to list, but given the local speed is ok I don't suspect the drives.

Though I do have one drive that is failing in another array, when it decides to block it takes out the entire server for a few minutes. I have a replacement on order. but it's odd because even the array with the failing drive acts fine 99% of the time. Just did a dd write test and got 288MB/sec which is probably acceptable for raid 5.

I made some hard boiled eggs at home for supper and decided to just boil the rest of the package so I can use for later. I'm at work now just realized that I forgot to put the other eggs back in the fridge. I would have figured they'd be fine but upon a google search looks like they can't be left out at room temp for more than like 2 hours. Doh. It MIGHT be fine since I keep the house cold when I'm not home, but it's not that cold out so the temp is still like 17C in the house and going down pretty slowly. So I'll probably have to toss them. I hate to waste food.

Went to see some old friends in other countries and went to an open market. Paid $15 USD for some candies with a value about $5 USD (at most). Grrrrrrrrrrrrr <upset panda>

I heard a tune on Morning Edition yesterday(I /think/) that quoted some of the Poldark theme. It was fiddle, and electronics. I've tried finding it on the site, but it didn't seem to make the song listing. I check Wed-Fri, and couldn't find it :^(

Housmate and I got our flu vaccines back in September. She's got the flu now, and is pretty miserable, and I'm probably already infected.

Yay.

My laptop's HDD took a shit it seems. Now using my backup laptop. Sucks because I was going to make my periodic bookmarks backup and didn't. So now I need to see if I can access the HDD with a SATA to USB adapter and retrieve the shit on it.

Forgot my transit pass at home so I had to pay fares in cash. $9 out of my pocket where i would have paid $0 if I had remembered to bring my unlimited ride transit pass.

That would suck. Or having to drive on congested divided highways. Any time I visit or pass through Toronto I can't stop telling myself how glad I don't live there. Fun to visit if you don't have to be anywhere for a certain time but would not want to live there that's for sure.

A single ride is $2.50 but if you pay for single use tickets its $3/ride. I took 3 trips. On my way home I didn't realize I could not transfer from one line to another until I got off, so I literally rode 2 stops and got off only to realize I couldn't transfer without having to buy another ticket.

An unlimited monthly pass is $100 something per month.

An unlimited ride ticket in Las Vegas is about $20 for 3 days IIRC. I use it whenever I was in LV, no need for rental car and have to deal with the traffic and extra fees to park at the casinos.

There is a jerk in my office who passes through each morning and flips on the annoying overhead lights and then leaves. The person doesn't work in this area. The light switch is a around the corner so I haven't figured out who is doing it. Perhaps I need to hide out near the switch with a hamster and some duct tape. This person would surely think twice before messing with the switch again.

Apparently SPAMers were using my VPN IP address? Because this site banned my IP. I think I just pissed off someone since I was in P&N. That's all.

The ice machine in my office was declared "unsafe" and turned off because it doesn't have a water filter. We're on a municipal water supply. The drinking fountain and kitchen faucets are okay even though they also lack filters. I inquired about this and was told, "oh no, it isn't safe to make ice from unfiltered water." People is soooooo stupid.

Find for home, sure. But stuff (also butt stuff) that's allowable in municipal water builds up in the icemaker and makes things taste weird. The alternative is to clean it frequently, but filters are cheaper than maintenance.

Freaking fools could not drive on the interstate. I and thousands of other drivers were stuck on the interstate/off shoot streets/roads for almost 1 hour because a handful of fools created a huge accident with several vehicles this morning. The whole interstate was shut down then reduced to one lane. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr <angry panda>.

I've been on the hunt for the right laptop and I'm picky when it comes to display and keyboard.

Dell Small Business 18% off coupon which expires today, found a Latitude 5280 nicely loaded with 3 year on site warranty for $529 after coupon with free shipping but my credit card is upstairs in my wallet. So I go upstairs, grab my credit card, proceed with shopping cart and it's 11:03 PM CT the coupon disappears because I guess they expire at 11PM CT?

In a moment of weakness I briefly considered paying full price $646, dreadful I know.

Hopefully they'll have a Memorial Day or whatever sale.

I should call PAB Attorneys at Law, they have experience dealing with Dell
