Wow. That's pretty self-defeating.

Yea, I really feel defeated with my rooted phone that has no limitations imposed on me by a company that can go fuck itself. Woe is me...

Eben Moglen said:
The death of Mr Jobs is a positive event.

I'm sorry to break it to you like that. He was a great artist and a moral monster, and he brought closer to the end of freedom every single time he put something out, because he hated sharing. It wasn't his fault. He was an artist. He hated sharing because he believed he invented everything even though he didn't.

Inside all those fine little boxes with the lit up apples on them that I see all around the room, is a bunch of free software tailored to give *him* control. Nothing illegal. Nothing wrong. He obeyed the licenses. He screwed us every time he could, and he took everything we gave him, and he made beautiful stuff that controlled its users.

Once upon a time, there was a man here who built stuff, in Berlin for Albert Speer. His name was Philip Johnson, and he was a wonderful artist, and a moral monster. And he said he went to work building buildings for the nazis because they had all the best graphics. And he meant it, because he was an artist, as Mr Jobs was an artist. But artistry is no guarantee of morality. We need free software.

The tablets that you use, that Mr Jobs designed are made to control you. You can't change the software. It's hard even to do ordinary programming. It doesn't really matter, they're just tablets. We just use them. We're just consuming the glory of what they give us, but they are consuming you too.

I require control of my devices. Apple takes control every time. Additionally, I don't support Apple in any manner, Using their device, even if it's free to me, puts money in their pocket. It's also a tacit endorsement of their company and ecosystem, and I give no endorsement whatsoever.

Not that Samsung is much better, but I have control. I'm patiently waiting for the neo900 to be released, and that will be a platform I can really get behind.

This would make more sense if you bought a "pure" Android phone from the Play Store, or you rooted your phone and installed something like Cyanogenmod.

If you're using a stock Samsung phone from a carrier like Verizon, you've basically exchanged one walled garden for another one with slightly more transparent walls.

I decided to get a second hard drive (old one is 5 years old and 2 year out of warranty now) and then decided to "fix" a bunch of random minor things inside my computer while I'm at it. Now I'm down $100:(.
I decided to add some hdds to my home server and somehow I've spent nearly £1000 on parts to build a new one.

Apparently we hired a an IT BA who doesn't know what a web service is. This same person barely even speaks English. And now, somehow, I have to work with this person on a project. This person's task? To write technical documentation. Someone who can hardly speak English and has no idea about nothing related to software development is tasked with writing technical docs, and I have to work with this person.

Fuck my life.

Who said it was a he? And I'd love to see this person replace me. LOL! How is that possible, when at te end of the day, I have to do everything that she can't deliver due to her incompetence?

I'm ok with Samsung's/Sprint's rom, and root for the time being. Once I get settled in, and the warranty is closer to up, I'll start working on getting rid of the crap I don't want. It's my first phone, so I don't yet know what's necessary for operation. I stripped my generic tablet down pretty lean, but that was low risk. I need to use the phone for work, and I'm not much in the mood to pay $700 if I break the phone.

Don't do it too well for her, and let her fail from time to time. Don't want the people making the money decisions to be blinded, you know they only care about numbers on a page, not who's actually doing it.

You realize that returning to this thread with more first world problems puts us in danger of more lashings with a wet noodle from third world people.

My Amazon shipment got split into two shipments for some stupid reason. I ordered another Noctua fan and now it seems like it won't make it until next week. I was planning on putting in a new HDD and DVD drive this weekend:(. Now I'll have to wait to avoid going into my system twice:(.
