Feel exasperated with some people's tendency to give useless advice. E.g. the suggested solution to my mislaying things is 'in future always remember where you put things'.

I hate that when I'm googling a technical problem and all the results are just super obvious stuff. If those things had worked, I wouldn't be googling this right now!

And yeah, I have completely lost tools and various things by putting them somewhere and then forgetting where. Typically if it takes me more than like 15 minutes to find it, I accept my fate and just buy another because I'll never find it again. I don't even find it after I bought a new one, it's gone completely.

I do often eventually find them again, after giving up and buying another one - which is why I have so many micro-sd-to-usb card readers, for example.

Other bit of useless advice - with regard to my tendency after leaving the house to worry if I properly double-locked the door - "always try to remember as you lock it that you've done so". I do that, and then immediately forget that I did so. Maybe I should start taking a timestamped video of myself locking the door?

FFS another one of my KVMs died completely, lost 3 out of 4 ports. They are dropping like flies. it's the 2nd one I have to replace in a week. I can't afford to keep replacing these. They gave me a discount on the newer model, that apparently doesn't do that, but it's still $250 a pop. The broken ones still work as a video switcher but USB stops working on each port one by one over time.

The new one just came in, but it was to replace the one at work, but since I'll be working from home tomorrow, guess I'll be replacing the one here.

Our wildlife water uses a natural bedrock stream channel (dry this year). The upper portion where we add water is gravel fill on top of bedrock. The water drains out of the gravel into two open pools for the animals to use. We went on vacation so the water level dropped below the spillway between the gravel fill and the upper pool. The pools went dry so the animals dug out the gravel to get down to water. We expected this to happen. What we didn't expect was the weather staying ten degrees above average for the entire time we were gone and the animals digging down almost three vertical feet chasing water. The trail cameras showed that the animals were able to get some water the entire period we were gone. Refilling the system took over five hundred gallons of water. Our transport tank holds 55 gallons so I spent the better part of a day hauling water. The system is functional again so the critters should be happy.

I can't tell you how much time I've wasted looking for tools or parts I just set down and can't find a few seconds later. I swear it sometimes doubles the time it takes me to work on my vehicles.
It's why I believe in Membrane Theory.

You put it down and the membrane moves it into another dimension where you can't see it. You look away and the membrane shifts again bringing it back into your dimension and view.

Two Typhoon jets just went supersonic above my house! I was in bed post night shift at the time so I spent a few minutes wandering about the house trying to work out what had exploded!

Turns out they were sent to escort a air India jet from Mumbai that had diverted and put out a distress call!
All is well though.
