I'm watching mad Max fury road again in preparation of renting furiosia soon. But my 65-in TV feels too small. Except upgrading to a 75 in is not anywhere in my near future so that's my fucking problem.

Had to answer a "Captcha" thing, and it asked me to tick pictures containing "fresh fruit". Several of the pictures featured tomatoes, so I had to guess whether they meant "fruit" in the culinary sense or the botanical sense. Turns out they _didn't_ regard tomatoes as fruit. I hate those stupid captcha things.

To update...TIL that the Supreme Court, no less, once ruled on exactly that question. Clearly Captcha were testing my legal knowledge.

Of course, given that stare decisis no longer seems to be the norm, I expect that could be overturned if it somehow serves Trump's interests.

This is a FWP, and a question. I was looking through old pics last night, and found some were corrupted. All the pics were taken with my old Galaxy S5 using two different camera apps. Not sure if that's relevant. It could be simply a matter of age, and they were stored sequentially on my drive, and corrupted at the same time. The thumbnail usually looked good in my file manager, but opening an image gives this(That's Frankie, aka Kittenchops RIP)...

Screenshot_2024-07-07_08-48-25.png

The crops vary in size, and could be top or bottom. The way they were ordered kind of looked like a scan line. IOW, the errors started small, got bigger, and moved top to bottom/bottom to top as the images progressed, then everything was fine again. File sizes seem about right, which leads to...

Some images wouldn't show a thumbnail at all, and trying to open them in gimp gives me this...

Screenshot_2024-07-07_08-48-55.png

Almost seems like I could fix them with a hex editor if I knew what I was doing. Anyone know what happened, and/or how to fix? I've verified I have some of the images backed up. I need to look through my old drives and hope I didn't backup corrupted images. If everything goes right, these can all be replaced, but it's an interesting problem.

Pretend I have no backups. How do I fix this?

I wonder if the file never copied properly from the get go and the transfer somehow got interrupted.

I've accidentally closed Filezilla too early in middle of picture transfers because I thought it was done and the pics end up looking like that.

Interesting idea. I don't think these got officially stopped during transfer, but it could've been a system glitch during the process. They definitely aren't on the same drive they started on. They've been transferred one or more times.

People shooting off fireworks last night until well after the 10:00 noise ordinance kicks in. I had scared and shivering dogs huddled in the bed with us. Finally at 10:20 I got up and hollered at the neighbors, the smoke was rolling over our yard and into our house so I closed the windows. We're talking heavy duty stuff that was shaking the house from 100 yards away. Moreons.

I'd love if fireworks were legal here, but yeah, you always get people that go overboard and they ruin it for everyone else. If they're going to do it at least do it at the lake, to minimize fire risk. But some people just do it right in a residential area which can be a hazard.

It's funny how dogs are so terrified of them, and cats just don't care. Same with thunderstorms. Big 100lbs dogs will be hiding under the bed and cats are like, whatever. My two cats will just sit at the window and watch the rain and hail hitting the window while lightning and thunder is going off.

Speaking of cats being assholes they keep messing with under the bed and making lot of racket. It's a huge mess under there now, the box spring lining is all screwed up since they climb into it. I tried to fix it with plastic vapour barrier a while back but it was awkward to try to fasten that as there was no real way to fasten it to anything so all of that is falling out now too. I built some barriers out of 2x4's for the sides to try to block them from going under but they learned to just pull on them and get in. Probably the orange cat, he's strong as hell. He kept getting into the linen closet and it makes lot of noise when that door is played with so I put a 35 lb weight plate in front and he actually moved it. I realized he saw it as a challenge too. I got rid of the plate since I was tired of having to move it myself each time I had to go in that closet, and now he doesn't play with the door anymore.

For the bed, I think I will have to bite the bullet and completely disassemble it so I can expose the frame only and have access from the top, and then I will just cut some plywood and place it where the box spring goes then reassemble, at least it will shield the underside of the box spring so they won't have anything to mess with. Really I don't get why bed frames are not build this way to begin with, just have plywood instead of the cheap slats. Cats messing with box springs is kind of a fairly common thing.

On my bottom freezer Whirlpool, when I noticed it running abnormally long, it turned out to be the mainboard (twice)..What i've learned is that if the freezer gets progressively colder, and the fridge progressively warmer, the mainboard function for defrost has failed or is failing. If you need a jackhammer to get the ice cream out of the container, it might be the defrost function on a bottom freezer.

Mine is also a bottom freezer Whirlpool, 12 years old. I'm hoping it's the mainboard because I ordered a new one which should be here tomorrow. I just have one of those infrared temperature guns, but the fridge is around 36-38F. It's hard to get a read on the freezer but I was measuring around -10F. Ice cream is harder than usual.

I have one of these and a couple of another style:

May not be super accurate, but tells me close enough without opening the door.

Room temperature will also affect cooling systems. They may have to work harder.

At the bottom of the freezer you can see if its iced up also. This site is very helpful if you havnt found it already. You'll also need to program the mainboard for your specific fridge the number is on a sticker in the fridge compartment.

I was playing around with an old phone considering using it for an internet radio or something, and I noticed the battery was bulging. I started draining the device, then thought it would be cool to shoot it with an air rifle, and get the reaction going. Couldn't find pellets for my Beeman, and my Daisy apparently isn't holding air anymore. Wouldn't penetrate the screen. I said "fuck it" and just pried it apart to get the "non removable" battery out.

Know what I found inside? A removable battery in a non removable location. You have to be a special kind of shitbag to release a device like that. I destroyed the phone getting it out, and I really didn't have to. It wasn't worth fooling with cause it was a bottom end marginal device when new, but it was still usable, and if I could've easily swapped batteries, that's something I might've done.

Maybe. Probably wasn't worth the effort. I paid 25 whole dollars new when I bought it. It was both a huge POS, and amazing. It didn't do anything very well, but the phone reception was good, and everything worked on a basic level. You couldn't buy a Walkman back when Walkman was a thing for $25. That phone gave you a walkman, telecom, navigation, internet, and video playback. All for $25. Fucking amazing.

There isn't much info on it. I made a quick look to see if anyone had tips for opening it, but the little I looked said "Nope, battery not removable". After prying it apart, I could see it wasn't bad to get apart. Oh well... It was a Kyocera Hydro Reach.

This is an RFWP, but I might as well finalize it here. Almost every pic that was corrupted was bullshit. It was mostly of an ugly house under renovation I needed for work. Aside from that, I had a handful of the ones I needed in a different directory, and another handful I had backed up earlier, and retired the drive as an archive. So, I lost nothing. Got all my kitty pics back, and one of my daughter the day she graduated highschool.

I'll hold on to some of the corrupted pics, and see if I can bring them back just for the experience. That'll be sometime when I'm bored and motivated. Happy I got my stuff back.

The little power button on the bottom of my TV, was molded on with a living hinge so it broke off from use.

I'll now have to use the remote control to turn the TV on.

Maybe I can solder something up... but then I'll have to watch a different TV, while I'm doing that.

Went to watch episode 3 of the new season of the Bear, But apparently logging into Hulu is broken. Same thing is happening to friend of mine not far away.

Now it's asking for a My Disney login and some other nonsense redirects. Seems that some schmuck in IT Flipped the wrong switch.

Mixed luck today. My boy's getting dreads in his fur. It's very short, but very dense, and since he's a fatty, he doesn't keep himself groomed as well as he could. I dug a crappy brush out of the drawer to brush him. Worked well, but it's a cheap beat brush, and the handle came off the head. It isn't essential it's there, but it makes it nicer to use.

I thought I'd drill it, then run a wire through the hole to keep it in place. Well, the cheap harborfreight drill bit broke off before completing the exit hole, and it's firmly fixed in place. So, I lost a cheap drill bit, but it made a very nice pin for the brush. Not sure if that's a win or a loss. Probably neutral. Life could be worse.
