At my buddies work they have a dual athlon mp server running winxp "might be win2k" that isn't doing much of anything at all. we have the okay to put a web server on there but what files do I need?

Apache... then what?

we need php, mysql, email and that's pretty much so it.

Now as far as the name server goes.... how do that work? do I have to make a forwarding ip on my name server? or can I just put the ip of the server as the name server?

Thanks

Lets see here.

You can get php and mysql at their own websites, as both offer a Windows version. For email, I'd recommend www.argosoft.com They make Argosoft Mail Server and the Pro version is quite inexpensive and fairly full featured (SMTP and POP3, plus a webmail interface.)

For all your name server issues, I tend to hand mine off to someone else. Try www.minidns.net, they're free and good.
