What fans should I get?

getting a silent system usually requires a new heatsink, new fans, a new case, a new power supply, and the possibility of you having to get silent HDs. more specifics would be good.

My system is pretty crappy. I bought my case for about 20 bucks on some site. I basically want a system that would be very silent so it won't bother me when I leave it on overnight. I'll spend about 100 bucks... I hope that's enough. And, is a Dell CPU a good investment? Are their systems loud? I've been planning to upgrade but I haven't really thought about it yet. We'll see how much it will cost for the fans and the heatsinks. Thanks!

Spend $30-$35 on a Zalman heatsink. I have one and cools very well and it's very quiet. When not overclocking, I can run my 3200+ without any case fans at all. Temps stay in the mid 40s - low 50s. If your system is still hot, you can look into new case fans, but I'm guessing you won't need them.

Dells are generally very quiet. If you're not a tweaker, they can be ideal, especially when you find a deal (sorry about the pun 😉).

For basic noise reduction, it's probably best to replace the cpu heatsink, and possibly get a fan controller for the case fans. If you've got any left after that, and don't mind voiding warranties, then replacing the vid card fan usually helps.

As for the Dell, first of all, Dell doesn't make CPUs. A Dell computer on the other hand can probably be built cheaper if you buy parts separately. At the very least, buying parts separately can allow you to know and get exactly what you want.

this thermalright hs with this panaflo fan, and replacing all your system fans with these lower cfm panaflo fans should definitely be cool and quiet... also i agree with degrador, fan controllers are great for lowering fan noise when you arent using your computer....
