What F1 driver sees on the track

lol @ 20s

you mean turning their head? I don't see how they can turn that much anyways with the HANS and all the other stuff that holds them in.

It's in the way, you have to take it off to get in and out easily.

you have to take it off to get in and out at all.

Why does the steering wheel get attached after instead of being secured in the car?

There's also a huge fine for not putting the steering wheel back on if you abandon your vehicle during the race, because the officials can't steer it.

Those wheels cost an incredible amount of money.

When Button won his last race, he used the steering wheel as a chock, because his car was stuck in neutral when he got out.

So he wedged that expensive techno-marvel under it. 🙂

They probably know the track well enough to know all the turns with needing to look past it. Driving at those speeds is probably more muscle memory than reflexes.

Wow, that looks strange! Never thought that the nose is where the feet were resting. No wonder why many F1 drivers bruise/break their legs when they hit something head on.

The speedometer is in KPH. No one uses MPH except Nascar or Indy 500.

It's crazy to think how fast they are really going. At full speed they cover a football field in 1 second. It's nuts. If something jumped out infront of you, at those speeds by the time you saw it tried to react, you would have passed it and be a minimum of 50 yards beyond it before your reaction.

1) That was awesome, we need more POV track footage like that. Monaco would be epic.

2) I've been playing F1 2010 way too much. Kept on going "more throttle, change gear, too slow through the turn, too late on the power" Damn video games. 😀 Would have been neat to see a proper hot lap immediately after. See how much difference there is between the two.

I was watching a clip from a documentary where there was an in-car camera view of a F1 race on the Circuit de Monaco track. It was just crazy with all the blind corners and hairpins on that track. The true kicker was it was pouring rain too.

Nascar doesn't use speedometers in their cars. They only use the tach and know which gear and RPMs to use in pit road.

Yes, but NASCAR uses MPH and not KPH in reference to car speeds and pit lane speed limits.

NASCAR actually does not allow speedometers in the cars...you must make your best guess based on the tach and gear, set by the pace car, and hope you don't lose a race for being .11mph out of tolerance, like JPM did.
