What exactly is the "music protection" that is going to be incorporated into the Sound Blaster Audigy line?

I've heard about this, and people don't seem to be too happy about it. What exactly is it?

This is technology designed to restrict your use of the music you buy. They intend to tell you how many times you might play a tune, whether or not it can be copied, to which device, etc. It's imbedded in the OS, player software, sound hardware, drivers, etc. If done right it'll open up music distribution on the net. But I'm very skeptical.

exactly, the ironic part is they think you will pay them money for these restrictions to be placed on you as if you'd buy a cage to put yourself in.

Sadly, I believe it will probably happen. Consumers don't always think...they just eat up what's given to them.

Happily, there will always be people who won't accept that and will find alternatives.

DVD's were inbreakble copy protected also :)

Eventully Manufactures will learn the cost of adding these wonderful "features" cost more than just giving up.

Thoe only hope tho, is that the open source community can continue to outsmart the establishment. As long as this occurs, then it's peachy.

You're not going to be allowed to listen to bad music. Anyone caught playing country or techno music will be interrogated by the CIA (Creative Inc. of America), and possibly arrested.

You have been warned. :|
