What exactly is the advantage of the Chrysler Pacifica??

Why would anyone buy this vehicle??

I was driving behind one today and it came to me that basically it's an SUV without the clearance. or a Minivan without headroom.

it's like you take away the main reason for buying a minivan (headroom) which more or less gives you an SUV Cabin BUT you take away the only real reason anyone would want to buy an SUV (Clearance) they chassis.

WTF was chrysler thinking with this vehicle?

Minivan seating without the minivan looks. You also get a bit bigger engine than any other minivan provides. More luxury as well.

It's a cool vehicle.

ok, i'll have to look inside one, but from the inside, it looks more like it would be suv type headroom.

I test drove one when we were shopping for a bigger vehicle this summer. I must say that I was very impressed. Ride and handling were very smooth. There's plenty of room, three rows of seats, two row DVD over head system, instrument cluster has a built-in GPS which is a great idea since you don't have to look sideways every time you want to look at it. We are considering buying one in 2-3 years, once this model "matures" a bit.

I never stated headroom. I said seating. You get two rows of bucket seats with a decent space behind them for hauling. It'd be a great vehicle for a family with two teenage kids for traveling.

It's more functional than something like an RX300 as a crossover or an Explorer as an SUV assuming you weren't towning anything more than a jetski or blowing through 8" snow drifts.

Headroom is the main reason for buying a van??? Clearance for a SUV??? Sorry, but it the overall space and versatility of it.

The Pacifica has more room than a sedan, and better styling than a minivan... I'd take one in a heartbeat.

(I'll bet that 90% of the SUV owners don't give a rat's ass about clearance.)

Heh. I'm one of the 10% 🙂 I did paper delivery for a year and a half and used my own vehicle. Ground clearance was a MUST to prevent ripping off my front or rear bumper on some of the driveways I had to climb up or down.

🙂

But you do have to agree that you are in the minority.

ok, so i went to chryslers site and i checked it out. it doesn't have minivan seating as it will only seat 6.

minivans will seat 7 or 8.

suv's seat 7.

So, if I were considering a Pacifica because I don't want the size/gas mileage of a SUV and I can't stand the styling of minivans... What do you suggest I get?

a volvo SUV. i love those, those are sweet.

how much better is the pacifica on gas vs a mid size SUV??

Crown Vic can seat 6 comfortably WITH additional storage capacity, the Pacifica has almost no storage with all 6 seats occupied.

I think back in the day when this was still a concept car, it had like a 350 HP engine in it and the press was licking it's chops, so it got rave reviews. But then once it actually got to the marketplace, it was watered down to all heck and it's a 17 second car now.

It offers two rows of bucket seats and a backseat. I don't know of many SUV's that offer that seating arrangement. Maybe an XL suburban or an Armada, but then we are talking 10MPG less on the highway and a body on frame vehicle with worse driving dynamics.

My friends dad bought one, only to later remember that he has two kids, one in college and one about to enroll in college. My friend says he just uses it as a daily driver and that he wishes he would have bought a sports car instead.

ya, i don't think any suv's offer bucket seating in the 2nd row.

if that's what you have to have, then i guess this is the only option.

i couldn't see buying this vehicle JUST for that one feature tho.

If I wanted

1) two row bucket seats (which I would prefer)
2) decent gas milage (which I do and it does)
3) handling better than a minivan or an SUV (which I do and it does)
4) and decent looks (which it does)

Then it's a clear cut winner.

It's a nice compromise between style, function, performance, and features.

I don't think anyone would get it for just that one feature, but I think vi_edit was just trying to clarify what he meant by "mini-van style" seating. Like I said in my post it looks like a modern day station wagon. A middle ground between a sedan and an SUV or mini-van.
