What exactly is "Fire"

Different color means different tempurates and fuels.

Fire is a number of different chemical reacions occurring simultaneously. A chemical reaction that produces physical effects...

In simple terms, its the combination of Heat, fuel, and oxygen.

All those different chemicals are formed from what is called pyrolysis, which is a decomposition of a fuel. Wood, when it undergoes pyrolysis, gives up burnable gases such as methane.

And don't forget...you don't need flames for fire to spread people!

Fire, in a nutshell, is the oxidization of a compound or more then one compound. Oxygen in the air and in the substance, when combined with heat, releases its bonds and releases large amounts of energy. This energy is what you would know as the heat of the fire. Oxidization occurs almost exclusively with carbon based bonds, which is why only organic materials burn. This of course excludes things such as helium, and other gases that dont fit the rule. The ash left over is carbon that has lost its oxygen or whatever other elelment was bonded to it. I'd say this would be in technical, but oh well!
