What exactly is a neocon?

Bumping an old thread, I'm sure some of you will bemoan me for it but I was just wondering how to define neocon too and at first I did my research on the web and then thought about searching here only to find the same helpful info, but in a much faster and more organized way ... If I'm still curious, I'm sure others are.. just helping to spread info about a term thrown around a lot on this forum

Basically, neoconservatives are Jewish Republicans. The neoconservatives pushed for war with Iraq. The Bush administration has been tricked into this huge mess.

These individuals include Deputy Defense Secretary Paul Wolfowitz, Undersecretary of Defense Douglas Feith, former Defense policy board member Richard Perle, National Security Council member Eliot Abrams, and Vice President Cheney's chief of staff, Lewis Scooter Libby. He believes these persons are political ideologues who have hijacked American policy in Iraq. And they advocated an invasion of Iraq to, among other things, strengthen the position of Israel.
