What exactly does it mean when you ground your motherboard?

How do you do it? I'm not asking cause I want to do it, just want to make sure I never do. Also this kinda relates to it I think, can you run cables between the motherboard and the case or is that bad? i am looking to clean up my case a little to make it look better and to get better airflow. thanks

i put the cables between the mobo and case a little, it doesnt hurt.

pic is here somewhere, scroll down(blurry i know)

to ground it, is actually something that happens automatically. it's connected to your case, which is connected to your psu, which plugs into the wall outlet, which is grounded.

the hip bone connects to the.....

Yeah, but how do you prevent it, I mean I have my motherboard connected to my case right now, everybody does, what actually makes it grounded. I mean mine is working fine

Since the power supply is plugged into the ground in the wall, your entire case is grounded because its in contact with the PSU.

My guess is you might be thinking of what can happen if an extra metal motherboard support without a screw hole gets put under a motherboard and shorts the traces, or some similar thing. Careful installation and checking to see that the holes in the board you use to attach it are in fact holes intended to use ofr attaching it, is the way to prevent this, as well as checking to see that none of the metal separators are under your board where they shouldn't be.

unless there are bare wires touching the motherboard, then no, those cables should not ground the board. why? cause electricity will not flow through proper insulation.
