What exactly does AMD Cool 'n' Quiet do?

I'm about to install an Asus M4A785TD-V EVO mobo and I'm wondering what exactly does the cool 'n' quiet do? There is a setting in bios to enable/disable it and the software dvd comes with a CnQ driver and an Asus CnQ utility. How do these 3 things interact.

Thanks,
BGC

Cool and Quiet lower the voltage and MHz of your CPU therefore uses less power and produce less heat, the cool part, and with less heat, your fan runs at lower speed, the quiet part.

Cool 'n Quiet only works if CPU is running less intensive applications, near idle, or at idle.

BIOS setting need to be enable in order to take advantage of the feature. CnQ driver is for Windows' power management, so you can set it as part of power management profile. Asus CnQ utility is just a tool for monitoring the "switching" of MHz and voltage. AMD have a tool for that too called Power Monitor available at their site.

Intel's counterpart of this is Speedstep.

C&Q works fine for me with CPU utilization at 100% --- unlocked, overclocked, under-volted or over-volted. I don't believe it works with a 'BE' over stock cpu multi - if you overclock with C&Q use the clock.

:D I meant to say that it CnQ lower the voltage and MHz "if CPU is running less intensive applications, near idle, or at idle."
