lmao! Seriously, this must be a parody thread or a shens thread... No one could be that naive.

1st: it "popped" when you went over a speed bump... be prepared to buy a new tire.
2nd: you drove with a completely flat tire... you may also have to buy a new rim.

(I drove 1 mile with a flat about 2 weeks ago... it was a blowout... no chance to patch it. (I keep a plug kit in the glove box; it's easier to plug and pump up a tire (sometimes) than it is to change the tire.) But, it was a trailer tire that blew out. Since the cargo would be damaged by rain, and it was going to rain within the house, I just had to make the decision: ruin part of my cargo (hay) or ruin a tire and rim. I wish I had taken a picture of it; it was absolutely shredded before I got home (plus it fell off before I got home). The rim looked like it had been in a demolition derby. $30 for a new rim and tire though (for that size))

stop the car

look at the tire to see if its flat

if its flat go to your trunk

get the jack and socketbar out

loosen the lugnuts on the tire

jack the car up, take the lugs off, then the tire

put the spare from the trunk on

put the lugs on, let the car down

tighten the lugs

put the flat tire in the trunk

drive to the next tire service station for a replacement

Good post there j00fek, Im just going to put my 2 cents with it. The reasoning behind NOT driving on a low or flat tire is you will damage the side wall of your tire if you do. The damage will not be seen on the outside of the tire but the inside of the tire will be filled with rubber from the side wall coming apart. Now most of these tire shops hire complete morons to change or repair tires and will just blow that stuff out of there, plug your tire and send you on your marry way with a side wall ready to burst and you can die. If you have a flat you need to make mention that if there is any rubber particals inside the tire you want a NEW one no matter what the jokers say to you for your life should be worth the mire $50 tire IMO.

Also not driving on a flat or low tire for any amount may save you from this happening and a simple plug or patch would fix your tire when you take it to the shop. So unless you have money flying out your ass and you dont want to get dirty changing out your flat with your spare call tripple-A or expect to buy a new one if you keep driving on it.

OH and if some of you use fix a flat crap. PLEASE read the can. If it is the flamable type let the person working on your tire know for one spark can ignite that stuff exploding your tire and taking off the kids head working on your repair.

yeah put the spare on, go to a local tire shop, they can patch the original for probably less than $40, then put the spare back in the trunk and avoid anymore speedbumps jk

Put the spare on and get it fixed. In this case since it blew out from a speed bump my guess is the tire is unrepairable which means you can try and do a road hazard on it.

Per PAB.

Go to the local auto store and purchase 4 new hi-grade tires with the most expensive rims you can find.

Go home

Jack the car up

Remove all four old tires tires.

Hide all 8 tires tires in a basement.

Call insurance company and file a claim for theft of 4 brand new tires and rims. - show insurance company the receipts.

Post on AT how you are having to fight insurance company for your check.

when check arrives; return 4 new tires & rims to store for your money back.

Take check and get flat repaired for $10.

Profit....

I hope that your not driving a new Toyota Minivan with four wheel drive. They don't come with a spare tire plus the tires aren't cheap!

Put spare on, throw flat tire into trunk and bring to tire shop, patch if possible, if not get two new tires or if your blow tire has little wear on it you might be able to get away with just replacing the one tire. Make sure they put the other tire on your spare tire rim if you have a full size spare time and that remaining tire is in good condition, either way make sure to ask them to put the spare back to wherever it belongs (and make sure they did before leaving).

Because most shops won't install just 1 new tire (uneven wear), and shops won't install 2 tires if they are front tires. They will rotate rear to front, but if the rears are worn out too much, he's out of luck.

For a guy like the OP, your posted procedure is NOT NEARLY comprehensive enough.

My necessary additions are bolded.

stop the car as soon as safely possible.

Activate your emergency (4 way) flashers

Be sure you have pulled as far off the road as humanly possible.

If auto, put your car in park, if stick put it in gear. In both cases, then fully engage your emergency (parking) brake.

look at the tire to see if its flat

if its flat go to your trunk

get the jack and socketbar out

If there are wheel chocks in your jack kit, use them -- one on the tire opposite your flat, the other on the other tire on the same side of your flat.

Bring the spare up to right by the tire you are going to change. Check to see that it is inflated.

If you don't know where they are on your car's 'frame', consult your owner's manual for a diagram of the safe jack points.

loosen the lugnuts on the tire, just to get them started

jack the car up, take the lugs off, doing so in a "opposites" cross pattern so that your wheel is coming lose evenly, then the tire

Make sure you have jacked your car up high enough that when you remove the flat, there is enough room between the wheel hub and the ground to put your fully inflated spare on in it's place.

put the spare from the trunk on

put the lugs on, tightening them to within 9/10ths or more of their full tightness, let the car down

tighten the lugs, the last less than 1/10th, again using the criss cross "opposties" pattern of addressing each lug

put the flat tire in the trunk

retrieve all your loose materials and also return them to your trunk

drive to the next tire service station slowly, for a replacement

If in ANY doubt, keep your 4-way flashers on during this drive

HAHA I laugh when I read this because for me, my time is worth more then to call, get put on hold, wait to talk to the agent, wait for them to call the cheapest place they can find, then wait several hours for the tow truck to show up. The idiot that showed up to lift the car wrong onto the bed and messes up my ride. Leaving me stranded on a saturday night in BFE having to wait till monday till a place is open to put my spare tire on :p All because Im too much of a goodie too shoes to bother doing it myself.:disgust:

Are people this lazy or time so worthless not to take the lousy 10 minutes to take their flat off and put the spare on????? OR better yet, carry a $20 air compressor and a $5 plug kit and fix it themselves and say FVCK YOU to the repair places and tow trucks and my time wasted waiting for someone to do it for me?? Its a no brainer to plug a tire. Pull nail out put plug in. Fill with air. if nail is stuck in side wall or side wall has a tear, put on spare tire, drive to nearest tire trax for new tire. DUH :p:p:p I do the later and carry a good jack, cheap compressor, and plug kit in my car always. Fvck repair shop stealing my money, I do it myself :) And so can you if you dont look at it with the "OOOOOOO I just do it, its hard and complicated, and I will get dirt under my nails" attitude ;)

What should be in your trunk to save you money and time:
Cheap $15 coveralls incase you get stuck wearing your sunday best.

$20 cheap 2 ton jack (much better the the 3 cent one the manufacture gave you)

$10 good 4 way lug wrench (again much better then the 1 cent one the manufacture gave you)

$20 air compressor with a air gauge and if all possible the ones with the jumper packs built in and a flashing light should you need to flag someone down at night.

$5 plug kit

$20 Tool kit

Spare Serpentine belt in case yours ever breaks (the direction to install a new belt on your car in under the hood. On the fire wall, the radiator, or the hood itself. New belt should be around $35 Reason being is this belt goes bad you lose EVERYTHING. Power steering, Power, And mostly water pump which means your car will over heat and you can do some major damage and HONESTLY it takes less then 5 minutes to replace that belt. So $35 and 5 minutes or your pisses off self pushing your car to the nearest place causing thousands in damage or stranded in the middle of knowhere with a banjo playing softly in the back ground?

2 flashlights. One battery powered and a big ass spot light one that plugs into your lighter jack with a really long cord and with like a magnet attachment if you have a choice. Dont skimp on the spot light or battery powered one for you want a reall nice bright as hell light to see what your doing on a dark un lit road and other cars on the road to see you so the brighter the better.

A rain ponch or two. ****** an umbrella. You need both hands.

A old blanket case your sitting in mud or glass, or winter for warmth if the car wont run.

and a $10 emergency road kit with flares and reflective triangles.

All this will save you time, money, and your life as well

OH and one more thing. Go to your local junk yard and pick you up a FULL size spare tire and wheel just in case you have to drive a few hundred miles or faster then 45 mph. They are like $15 with tread still on them and you will be saving the environment and again maybe your life as well. They will have plenty for you to choose from in like new condition. Doesnt have to be aluminum wheel steel will do fine make sure it come off the same make, with the same lug pattern, and same tire size as you have now. The grease monkeys there behind the counter should be able to hook you up with the right one.
