What exactly do groupies do?

They hang out after the game/concert/whatever, trying to get the attention of the superstar.

What do they want? Sex? Money? Do they hope that the superstar will think the world of them and marry them? I just don't get why a group of girls (or guys I suppose) would want to chase after someone in that fashion.

And when they do get sex out of it, how come they don't run around telling everybody that the slept with the superstar?
 
It's for sex/partying with the band. It makes them feel like they are part of the celebrity treatment by screwing and partying with them. And you're crazy if they don't tell their other groupie ho's exactly who and where they screwed them.

It let's them live the rockstar life for a night. Sex, drugs and rock-n-roll, man.
