What exactely do i need to rid my pc from kazaas spyware?

Hi,
Like alot of people, i like & use Kazaa, and is really fed up of the spyware and annoying popups.
Like that annoying bullsoft thing that comes up at startup, and if you disable it, then kazaa refuses to work until you re-install it.

Anyway, what can i do to prevent the popups(both in program & on startup) and get rid of the spyware? While keeping Kazaa working
I Run AdAware6.0 after every kazaa session.
Dont suggest Kazaa Lite, cos i think its rubbish.

AFAIK Kazaa Lite is the only way to go if u like Kazaa generally. Of course there are a few other P2P software there but again, popups and spyware are generally standard in such software as u know. :frown:
 
kazza lite is the way to go...from wut i remember the spyware had to do w/ a dll file; kazza lite replaces that file w/ a "dummy" file. if u dont like the popups use a custom HOST file (located in the system32\drivers\ect). add 127.0.0.1 followed by the address/server for those popup ads (i'm sure u can find it somewhere here). using this method popup windows will still occur but it will have the "page cannot be displayed" message since the computer tries to go to the localhost (127.0.0.1 which is ur computer) for the file.

Like i`ve already said dont suggest Kazaa Lite. I was wondering of ways to help me rid of the spyware.
 
Spybot Search & Destroy, and Ad Aware ? (spybot is more advanced, and needs knowledge to use safely, ad aware easy and most recently updated).

BTW if you remove spyware that was installed by other programs that you actually want, expect them to refuse to work after you remove their spyware.

is Kazza lite fully spyware free? Also is it possible to prevent it making your computer be available for people to download from? I dont use these progs but erm my cdrom is broke or something, and i want to play my music I have already bought on CD on my comp, er. More infos on this "host" file thingy too pls 🙂 Oh and linky to kazza lite, google comes up with some unfriendly-sounding sites :Q

Forget Kazaa anyway, I've found that half the stuff you get is either riddled with virus' or it's a completely different file. The best way to d/l and get things is via Direct Connect, it's free and has no "SpyWare", it has one add at the top of the screen built into the software but other than that, there's NO pop-ups anyway and it's no spyware, you can get it from http://www.neo-modus.com

Actually I've found that Kazaa Lite is just as bad as Kazaa when it comes to spyware, dummy file or not, it's so bloody annoying having all those pop-ups.

Mmm, did you install the host file that came with Kazaa Lite? No? I did not think so.

 
Yes I did, and it was from installing from a fresh installation of XP as well, plus there's a readme so I couldn't have gone wrong 😛
 
I got P!$$ed off with kazaa, so i uninstalled it, purged the registary, ran AdAware, and searched for anything to do with Kazaa, Cydoor, BullSoft, BullDownload.
Whats WinMX like for spyware?
Or can you suggest another P2P Program thats good? Preferably one that access the kazaa Networks as well.
 
WinMx is great no spyware there I only use that for MP3's though. As for spyware Kazza lite is fine like everyone said I use that and Adaware and Popup ad filter and I get nothing. But Kazaa is just for some things the rest I use IRC.


I am guessing you are getting stuff from GAIN so run the link below it will tell you what is installed on your system and how to get rid of it. After doing that then install Kazza LITE and you wont have any problems.

like what someone else has mentioned, Direct Connect is a very excellent program. DC++ is also pretty damn good too...

They are not like Kazaa, where you connect and just search the world..
Direct Connect & DC++ are hub based.. You enter hubs (sort of like chat rooms)...
Certain hubs require you to share a certain amount of upload slots, and specific amount of shared stuff..
One of my fav's so far has been the hub, xbite.no-ip.com
The minimum to connect to this hub is 3 slots, and 10GB

to sum it up.. try Direct Connect or DC++
you will not be disappointed
 
There is one thing you forgot to mention about DC++, not many places like people using DC++ and you will be banned, so unless it says "DC++ welcome", don't join the channel.
