And no, I'm not talking about MMO versions. I'm thinking long, involved, single-player games with a good story...something along the lines of Square's Final Fantasy and Legend of Mana series. Earthbound was a good (if goofy) one, too.

Sure, I realize that I could go dig up an emulator or plunk down $50 for a PSone and have all kinds of them. In fact, this is exactly what I've done. But my question is, why don't they have any more for PCs? Everything now seems to be FPS games - and I don't have the reflexes for that. I'm a sitting duck :p FF7 is the last one that I've got. A friend of mine showed me a little bit of Morrowind (sp?), but I haven't had a chance to play it. Are there any others that I'm missing here? Just wondering.

FF10 was pretty good too...too bad it isnt out for the PC yet (at least that i know of)

Didn't care much for Morrowind, it was fun for a little while but it was just too long to me. I believe there are some for the PC, but I don't like the whole wizards and knights type of genre though. I bought Xenosaga, but it was somewhat disappointing. The last great rpg I've played was FF7 (imo, anyways).

So I take it you've already ruled out black isle's Baldur's Gate/Icewind Dale series? There's 100hrs + for ya...

I hear Gothic and it's sequel are worthy RPGs too.

Dungeon Siege is another recent one.
Long(ish) and singleplayer it may be, but "involved with a good story?" Nah.

Story? Dungeon Siege? Worst. Letdown. Ever.

Anyhoo, have you played the Fallout series, or Planescape: Torment, Arcanum: Of Magick Obscura, etc.?

Those are great RPGs!

RPG RPG!!!
Watch out for skinnies.

I only somewhat got into RPGing and was only statisfied by a few games. FF7, Wild Arms were the only true RPGs that captivated me. FF tactics and the Ogre series and Vandal Hearts.

the baldurs gate/icewind dale series were great. oh im playing the expansion pack to NWN wich is onother great rpg for the pc.

fallout 1/2 were good. morrowind is fun. but it is actually to open ended. you can do anything and go anywhere. not to mention by the time you are level 4 you pretty much have some really good armor and weapons.

Xenosaga
Suikoden series

Both excellent rpgs for ps2

Xenosaga will make your head hurt, and you'll be disappointed cause it answers exactly zero of the questions you have at the end, as it's only part 1 of 6.

Suikoden 3... just didn't interest me. I tried several times and got 15-20 hours in, but I just couldn't get into it.

Don't think it will be, either; FF9 never made it to the PC. The next FF will though, I think. If I remember correctly, it's supposed to be an online game, and console and PC versions should be able to play together. Wish I could remember where I saw that....

At first I thought you were talking about role-playing games, but then that would have been too obvious. Then I thought of the rocket-propelled grenade, and then I thought, yeah, he's right! What happened to the rocket-propelled grenade? Then I click in and you're talking about role-playing games. Sigh.

Yeah, FFXI is a MMORPG. It comes out in October I believe. PS2 version requires the network adapter and, I believe, the hard drive kit. Square will also be charging ~$10/month for the service.
