What ever happened to speed LIMITS?

With all the increases in vehicles on the road, everyone has to get to where they are going faster. In order to accomplish this, they must surpass the speed limit.
 
They ARE raking in the cash, are you on drugs?
Speed limits were intentionally kept low for quite a long time in order to generate income.

Drivers in the U.S. have enough trouble at 65-75 mph as it stands

I drive at close to 80 MPH almost all the time on the interstates. I am no more likely to get into an accident than if I drove at 65.

The problem is that if I do get into an accident at such speeds my odds of survival are far lower as such speeds.

Ideally there would be no speed limits at all, but if you were driving in a dangerous manner, the punishment would be harsher.
 
On side streets I usually maintain 30-35 because it's not that much faster than 25 and if your kid is running around in the street and I hit him. I'm sorry, I'm lieing. I was going 25. Your bad parenting hurt someone, and oh yeah, my speeding.

You don't know that its the same risk to drive at 80 as it is to drive at 65. Statistics don't lie. Driving fast and driving dangerously come hand in hand.

I find it really hard to believe that 5-15 mph on an interstate where it's relatively clear is going to make any difference at all.

If they really were raking in the cash, their would be 100x as many cops as thier are. Their makeing money, but they clearly be makeing a lot more. People still speed all the time. If they were raking it in, people would stop.

if they went to the extent that they nazied every single speeder, there would probably be a voter revolt to increase speed limits.
 
I was thinking about this today.

On the freeway if it is reasonable and safe to do so, if I am going less than 80mph I get frustrated. I would say the average speed on the freeway around here is about 78mph and I average 83mph
 
SPEEDING SAVES LIVES

Reason: Speeding translates into less time on the road. The less time spent on the road, the less of a chance of having a fatal accident.

People have radar detectors/jammers... and people that speed usually are smart enough to look ahead for cops.

Because there are TOO many vehicles to actively control, with TOO many drivers who are just TOO important to obey the speed laws, in TOO big of a hurry to get where they are going, and TOO few cops to enforce the laws...
I used to commute into the S.F. area daily. about 100 miles each way. If you aren't going over 70 in the morning, you're gonna get run off the road, and you just might get ticketed for impeding the flow of traffic. The CHP is more concerned with maintaining the FLOW of traffic, than they are with the SPEED of traffic. Unless you're REALLY driving stupidly, weaving in/out, tailgating and driving aggressively, etc, they're NOT gonna bother you for simple speeding, unless you're over 80. While they deny that, it's a fact of life on the highways. They just don't have enough officers to actively enforce the speed limits. Sure, if you see a cop, you might slow down for a few minutes, but then you speed back up again...normal behavior...Radar detectors are just another tool to help us break the law...as are the licence plate covers that absorb/reflect lasers and mess with photo cameras,
