I used to looooooooove those things. Teachers would put 'em on your paper if you did well..........then on the weekends you'd go to the mall or wherever.........(Remember actually being OK w/ going to the Hello Kitty store w/ your sister just 'cuz they usually had some scratch 'n sniff stickers?? LMAO!).

Anyway.........my daughter asked if the "OK" sticker on my cable modem box was a "scratch & smell".......I laughed and then thought........"Hey, what the heck ever happened to those?"

???

P.S. For us old school folks.........Remember these??.......

Pizza (ahh)
Coke (how'd they do that?)

(Now I'm drawin' a blank) :p

Whoaaa........I didn't expect that post 'til the bottom of the first page or so.......LOL!!!

ATOT is up early on Saturday, eH? ;)

But seriously............I actually suggested to my daughter (as she was thinking of Christmas ideas) that she put those down as a stocking stuffer or something. Heck, I'd be scratch & sniffin' on Christmas morning right alongside if she got 'em........:D

The stickers were taken off the market in the early 90's due to a lawsuit dealing with an guy in Long Beach who stuck one on the bottom of his swimming pool killing over 100 blond women at party he was hosting. He offered $1000 to the first women that could go to the bottom, scratch it, and make it to the surface to tell him exactly what it smelled like. The first women to do so would win the prize. The pool quickly filled up with dead bodies to the point there was no room for the other women waiting to dive in to even fit in the pool to give it a shot.

A fight soon broke out betwen the ladies on that hot day when the man told the women that since the pool was full they were to go out to the ocean and play a game of hockey. First side to score would share the $1000 pot. Little did the women know that the water had to be frozen in order to play hockey and all the rest of the women died when they jumped into the water, and lay on the bottom where they all drowned shortly after jumping in fully clothed, including wearing ice skates.

They are still used on the front of the air fresheners that you plug in, just to sample the smell out

I don't know why their popularity has waned; but they are still available. Froogle shows a decent selection.

They stopped making them when drug pushers started putting cocaine on the stickers. ;)
