I have an unopened box of Samsung RAM 16GB (2x 8GB) DDR3-1600 and I wanted to see if I could buy another set. But they didnt have it. What ever happened to it?

I wonder why? Samsung made some really nice memory in years past. But usually for other vendors.

I wonder why also. My Razer Blade Pro from 2013 has Samsung DDR3 memory in it also. I have a box of 16GB of Samsung DDR3-1600 RAM that I am using in my newest PC.

I think their 20nm class ddr3 was more a trial run before moving their server and ddr4 production to that node. Samsung has a history of doing this, pc133, ddr1, ddr2, etc. they tend to come in at the end/beginning of a generation switch with advanced mem, but for some reason don't hang around.

The only Samsung RAM I see for sale in the UK is DDR1 and PC133 (checked with two suppliers).

That must be it... the Samsung DDR3 hit the market a few years ago and was an instant hit (I know, I have some.) But then it vaporized in about 9 months, never to return. What a shame.

Yeah, their low profile low voltage DDR3 1600 was beastly. I'm running 2x 4gb sticks in my HTPC at DDR2133 with 1.5V.

I threw 4x 16gb sticks of registered ECC Samsung DDR3 1600 into my NAS. It has been fantastic there as well.

I wish they still sold the "sleeper" DDR3 that's in my HTPC, especially if they started selling 8gb DIMMs.

Yes, that's what I have... it's nice stuff. I didn't beat on mine, I'm just running it at stock clocks with a little bit tighter timing, and, of course, low voltage. I kick myself for not buying more when I had the chance. Hell, I kick myself for not buying any RAM when it was $30 for a 2x4GB set...

Where did I put my crystal ball... ? :hmm:

Remember Rambus? I'm disgusted that I spent closer to a kilobuck on those kits. Well -- maybe half that. I don't . . . want . . . to think about it.

There was more than one "flavor" of Samsung for some 533-FSB motherboards. I wanted a spare motherboard, and a small outfit in Sacramento sent me the board, "blank" PCB's for unused slots, and the wrong, damn RAM. The board was damaged.

I suspect someone socketed the board with -- who knows? -- DDR? The different Rambus model? At least she took back the mobo and parts, reversing my credit-card or Pay-Pal.

Yeah, I managed to pickup a few kits of the samsung 1600 before they dried up.

can easily run 1866 with tight timings and default voltage (in my sig).
running around 2000 with tight timings in another system at 1.37v
None of my motherboards let me push it higher or I would :)

Samsung branded ram is not popular in the US states. It is found more at memory specialty shops online than in the big box computer stores.

Try here. They seem to have a good selection of Samsung.

lol no way, there was a HUGE fanfare for their low profile "green" stuff. That ram was low profile (which was great for working with larger heat sinks or just anything inside the case really, RAM that is no longer in the way with gaudy heat spreaders is a godsend) and low volts, and if you gave it normal volts it could overclock like crazy. Plus it was incredibly affordable.

If there's any reason for it not having any sort of 'staying power', its because Samsung never intended to keep producing it beyond selling out whatever batches they predetermined to make.

You only had to goose up the voltage by 0.02V?

Those no-frills 1600's were a rave sometime over the last couple years. I shoulda bought some . .

On paper they looked horrible... 11-11-11-28... but they sure tightened down nice...

So I've long heard and read here. I shoulda bought some. On the other hand, I heard that G.SKILL had used similar parts. But I don't think I want to experiment by under-volting the kit I bought in January. If someone had any success with that, I'd think I would've heard more about it. What I heard, I heard about parts: No mention of anything about under-volting the G.SKILL kits.

I shoulda bought some . . .

yeah, 1.35v threw a few memtest errors. Bumped it up 0.02v and it was 100% stable.

I just booted the system to check the bios

I bough 4 x's 4GB sticks of Samsung MV-3V4G3D-US_DDR3 for $92 CDN last year. I've been running it at 1866Mhz 9-9-9-24 1T @ 1.35v - It's fantastic ram.

I was fortunate to be in the market for ram when it was available and ram prices were cheap.

I honestly believe Gov't Agencies made Samsung an offer they couldn't refuse for exclusive use.

Samsung only made 4GB sticks of it.

Yeah -- I saw that on your system specs during another conversation about "OC'ing a 2500K" or something similar. I get the same thing, but not for $92, and I pay an extra "0.15V" for the same speed, timings and command-rate.

I shoulda bought some, *$#@&!! it!
