The dollar coin will never gain widespread acceptance until they stop producing dollar bills. There are so many weak arguements about dollar coins, like "they'll tear my pants pockets when I carry them around" wah wah.

The dollar coin is a good idea. It is more economical than the dollar bill.

Can't see how it's more economical. We'd have to go around changing every candy/beverage machine!

The coins cost more to make than the bills, but they have a much longer lifespan in circulation. Something like 35 years if I remember correctly. The bills only have a lifespan of about 5 years, they need to be taken out of circulation and more bills printed. In the long run replacing the dollar bill with the coin completely would save the govmt millions of dollars.
