Never spent a penny with the company, and watched the whole horrible scene unfold.

I just ran across something today that reminded me of this whole thing and was wondering if anything had ever happened beyond the initial talking heads media splash.

TANSTAAFL.

Anyone willing to buy a $130 CD or DVD with the hope that it will be cheap / free after rebate is way too trusting.

It was an interesting (in a car-wreck kinda way) what happened to these people that lost lots of $$ to cyberrebate.com
MSN Cyberrebate Recovery Discussion Board

There is A LOT of messages on this board dealing with the whole mess. Last I read, (in December) there were people taking their credit card companies to small claims court and winning judgements against them to recover some of the lost money.

Never traded with them at all back in the day.

I heard some people lost a fairly sizable amount.

I did alright, I got a dexxa wheel mouse for 34.95 shipped with a $30 rebate. Ended up getting the rebate about 6-8 months later. I still have that mouse somewhere.

Good grief, that scam was so transparent. There's no way CyberRebates went out of business legitimately. As soon as there was a down trend in incoming orders, they shifted their (actually everyone else's) money offshore and called it quits.

And while we're on the topic, I have a great idea. I'll sell you FUTURE snow removal from your driveways for $0.10 on the dollar. That's right. If you act now, you can send me 1/10th the money up front, and in return, the next time you need snow removal I'll treat your dime like a dollar paid. Sound too good to be true? But wait! It gets better!

The government will reimburse your for the cost of snow removal at 100%! So you give me a dime, and the government will give you a $1, AND your snow will be removed!!! Take advantage of this deal now, because the legislature is moving quick to close this loophole.

Blah. I could make crap up like this all day long.

When cyberrebates first went down I checked out that MSN board. Some people had over $20,000 tied up in that ridiculous scheme. I just shake my head at what greed does to people. But I guess that's why con men stay successful - they prey on greedy people.

Saw an interview with the CEO of PayPal... made me nervous. Not that I think puberty is an important factor in selecting the CEO of a company that trades in lucre.

It's just that I heard the mastermind of CyberRebates was on a jet to an extradition free country. Enron has put one in the ground and has the rest pleading the fifth.

That, and the fact that Enron actually had a business model.

Hey I got a great breadmaker from them. Sweated the $300 rebate the whole time, but it did take them another year to die.
