I have some DVD materials (home videos) that I want to convert to VCD. I have all the tools, but what format should I do? SVCD, XSVCD, Divx?

WHat gives the best picture and sound quality overall? I notice that XSVCD has the higher resolution and video bitrate, but what about sound?

The quality depends more on the choice of software for your encoding than the choice of format.

The best quality MPEG2 encoder is CCE, but it costs a few g. TMPGEnc is cheap, but you will have to have your bitrate 50% higher to get the same quality.
