I was just thinking last night which emotion is the strongest, and i narrowed it down to love and hate. Both on total oppisite sides of the spectrum. Granted hate could have more negative consequences than love, but that doesn't mean it's stronger.

Also what emotion do you enjoy the most? What i mean is which is your favorite? Is it love? Or is it another one of the pleasurable emotions/feelings like laughter, or security, or fun? I honestly don't know which i enjoy the most. Do you?

When it's sincere i believe love is one of the most envigorating experiences there is. Hence my choice of love being the strongest emotion.

I think love is stronger than hate. You will do just about anything for the ones you love. Also, hate is usually short lived while love can last forever. :)

Offspring - Cool to hate,

anyways, I think most people like love more than hate. Cause love gets you booty, hate gets you jailtime.

Emotions themelves don't have strength. What gives them substance and power are the people who are feeling them.

I decided long ago that hate has no place in my life. Came out of a bad situation, and one day I just let my hatred go. One of the most liberating experiences in my life.

Myself, I prefer love out of all the emotions. It not only makes another person feel better, but you, yourself.

The next on my list would be awe. Haven't really felt it in a long time (since I first held my niece six years ago), but when it hits it just completely overwhelms you.

I think love is the strongest, IF and only if it's genuine. Love is definately the emotion I enjoy most.

Fear is the strongest emotion, particularly in the form of anxiety.

Our world is built on fear. Fear of punishment, fear of rejection, fear of being alone, fear of being caught in the bathroom making rude noises.

Love and hate are extremely powerful emotions, but they are fleeting. They enable us to do amazing things in a pinch, but fear...fear is what drives our lives.

I used to work in advertising. Advertising is all about manipulating people's fears. Fear that you will have zits. Fear that you are missing out on a really great episode of The Practice. Fear of your car blowing up and being stranded in an Alpine wilderness, slowly freezing to death unless you have a cell phone. And my favorite, the fear of not getting the beautiful person featured in the ad if you don't buy the product. Fear is the driving force of our national economy.

Social mores, peer pressure, religious doctrine. It's all about fear. It is the driving force that creates a well-behaved society. A person without fear, without natural anxiety, is a psychotic and must be removed from society.

Love is the strongest emotion. It is much harder to love than to hate, and thus one must be stronger to love one's enemy then to hate them.

i think they are both equally strong. If you truely hate someone.. it can make you do things you wouldn't normally do.. just like love.

Most people just dislike someone.. a lot.. but to hate someone.. is something deep and dark inside you and swells into a crazy passion. Same thing as love.

Its funny that they are on different ends of the spectrum and yet there is such a thin line between them.

The most enjoyable emotion for me would be laughter. It can do so many wonderful things to just be laughing.

I prever love over hate says Jerboy.

Jerboy, may I then ask you about your icon? It seems to be an icon of a face laden with hatred/anger.

I also think that love is stronger than hate; hate is quite evil, actually. Another strong feeling is that of total nervousness (butterfly in stomach effect). I've felt enough of that during high-pressure tournaments and stuff like that.

One of the best classroom discussions I've ever had was on this very subject. Truly, they aren't at opposite ends of the spectrum. The opposite of love/hate would be apathy, total lack of ANY emotion. Love and hate are merely flip sides of the same coin. How easy it is for one to become the other, given the right circumstances.

kgraeme, you're absolutely right; I forgot all about fear. Truly, it is what makes the world go round, in some form or another. How sad.

Love isn't a real emotion. Love is merely a chemical imbalance caused by a process called 'reproduction'.

Hate, on the other hand, is a real emotion. It's a dangerous one as well. It can cloud someone's judgement and cause a feeling of vengeance. One can totally 'lose' it.

But when one has reached sufficient control over his or her emotions, hate and anger (which are basically the same emotion) can be used for more noble purposes. While practising martial arts, for example, such strong emotions can be used to focus your concentration and help one accomplish things s/he normally couldn't accomplish.

With that said, I've to admit that at this stage of my training, I've become insensitve to the effects of 'love'. Once I fully control lust (which is actually much stronger than love), I'll have reached a level at which I almost fully control my mind and body.

Hate is a stronger emotion. It is so much more intense and can be both physically and emotionally draining. There are times when I am so consumed with hatred for someone who has done something I dislike that I get tired.

love is pretty strong too. and for me it reaches its peak at love for country. that I believe is the most pure form of love. it is just not as intense as hate.

who would really perfer hate over love? It takes too much effore to maintain hate.

I enjoy a nice warm evil feeling now and then, but I doubt anyone "enjoys" hate. Love is a nice feeling, as I'm sure everyone who has experienced it will agree.

Define 'love'. Love is meant for procreation only, compassion is meant to allow individuals to get along with each other.

Love is definitely stronger. I really hate to be stereotypically female and quote something Oprah said, but it sort of rang true. Something to the effect that hate is usually masking some other emotion like fear or pain. I've found it to be pretty true for me.

Elledan, there's a big difference between despising or being enraged by someone and hating them. IMHO, you can't really have bone-deep hatred for someone unless you've loved them at one time. Ask just about anyone that's divorced, lol.

in order to hate a person, you don't even have to know that person. Just look at how people here think about Bin Laden. Also, during history there have been enough angry mobs who ripped apart important people who were responsible for their suffering (the Revolution in France, for example). I doubt these people ever really 'loved' those leaders etc.

Nay, love plays no role outside of procreation. Friendships are not exactly based on love, but more on getting used to each other, enjoy each other company.
