Headed to the south pacific for my honeymoon in a couple months, with my birthday coming up I want to ask my fiance to get me something photography related for our honeymoon.

Here is what I own...

Canon Rebel XT with the base 18-55 lens
plus a canon 28-90 lens, two polarizers and two UV filters.
Powershot A710IS

I don't have a camcorder which was one thought, but I was also thinking maybe an entry level telephoto lens? Like a 75-300? or 55-200? I know I'll be shooting alot of landscapes and sunset/sweeping vista type shots.

And price wise, when I say entry level I mean like $250 would be the max on price, maybe a few bucks over, but we are planning a wedding and do unfortunately have a bit of a budget.

Thanks in advance.

honeymoon? T1i... photo and video ;)

but your budget is a little tight.. $250 including everything? I'd say the XT+18-55IS might be doable used. but def go for the IS version of the lens. the IS is just a bonus, it's a pretty good lens for what it is.

though, you're talking about telephoto too, so I'm guessing the 250 is body only? if so, XTi's are ~$300 used, go for that if you can.

No no no, I already have a rebel XT with 18-55 and 28-90 lenses with polarizers and uv filters for each and the Powershot A710IS

What I want is a telephoto lens for this trip, either 55-200 or 75-300 with a pricetag under $250 if possible. Sorry for any confusion

The best budget telephoto in your price range is the Canon 55-250mm IS. Great image quality and image stabilization, which frankly is almost a necessity on longer lenses.

Best part? You can find it for around $225-250 new.

The 18-55 and 55-250 will cover most of the shooting you need to do.

If I were you, I would actually sell both the 18-55 and 28-90 you have, since both are very average lenses that produce "meh" results. The 28-90mm range is also not very useful on a digital SLR with a sensor smaller than a 35mm film frame.

You can get an 18-55mm IS (around $100 new on eBay) with the money from selling the 2 lenses you have, and the 18-55 IS not only adds image stabilization but also improves greatly on the optical formula of the original 18-55. The result is that you will be able to shoot at shutter speeds as low as 1/3 sec at 18mm, which is great if you want to do light trails and such without a tripod.

Also, with the 18-55 IS and 55-250 IS, you'll have a complete wide to telephoto range covered, with IS along the entire range.

The only telephoto lens (with IS) that will fit his budget of $250. :D

Reach gets expensive and I wouldn't go without IS on a telephoto.

Depends on what you use it for. Since I shoot moving things with my tele, IS is not as important. That's why I personally prefer my 70-210 USM for its much faster AF and faster aperture.
